SLO-030 Posted September 2, 2009 Report Posted September 2, 2009 PM Raven on here. He had a 30/55 with RA40 or 60 struts. Quote
Raven Posted September 2, 2009 Report Posted September 2, 2009 (edited) It was RA40 struts in my KE36 I owned. RA60 apparently have positive camber issues and I have a set of these struts but havent tested it out as of yet to see exactly how bad it is, if it even exists. I think the main issue is the length of the strut, so get some lowered springs in there and it should pull the steering geometry back close enough to standard to make it more usable or do what I'm going to do and convert them to coil-overs and add camber plates :P Edited September 2, 2009 by Raven Quote

jeffro Posted September 29, 2009 Report Posted September 29, 2009 i am looking at doing the same thing... i have a set of ra65 struts here and i put them up aside of the ke30 ones in my car.... from hub to spring mount is same distance but the tube overall in the ra65's are shorter. there is a thread on toymods about it... well similar it might give you an idea about it... alot of people use xt130 struts i don't know whats so good about them though. anyway back to ra65..... the ke30 springs might actually fit onto the ra65 struts(not sure till i experiment) but if you are going to put a heavier motor in you would want heavier springs... a few people use ae86 lowered springs in this set up also. must be lower then celica or something on don't know. hope this helps. and yes they have problems with positive cambers in the celica struts but people usually put sigma or crassida lower control arms in to correct it. but thats in an ae86 also.... maybe go to wreckers and just measure some control arms up and see whats longer. shauns ke30 Posted December 20, 2009 Author Report Posted December 20, 2009 damm how can you tell the difference between RA40 AND RA60???????? i don't no want mine are i got them off some bloke who said they where just celica brakes!!!!!! :) well my rolla is of the road for abit as I'm doing some body work (rust) and maybe some new paint :y: i put the RA40/60 in to day and yeah i have camber problems my front wheels are like this / \ what will fix this???? note: i mounted to the RA40/60 to the stock ke30 LCA????? :P Quote
styler Posted December 20, 2009 Report Posted December 20, 2009 (edited) strut swaps are the best for big brakes but the worst for fit and steering geometry, sometimes you get lucky with lower control arms, balljoints and steering arms that interface together properly from different cars but you can still have geometry issues. loads of people are happy to sacrifice the smaller issues for the gain of bigger brakes, bigger better dampers and springs but you can also uprate your standard strut to suit as well at a cost. NickZ Posted December 20, 2009 Report Posted December 20, 2009 there is heaps on ra60 struts, i even have a thread on my old Rolladore (v6 into a ke30). I used ra60 struts and vented disks, i needed to add 50mm to the Lower control arms to fix the positive camber. Quote

NickZ; a link to your thread will be cool :) and i think i have to take-a-way 10mm to 20mm out of the LCA to strighten them up so i think mine are ra40 :P Quote
colonel Posted December 21, 2009 Report Posted December 21, 2009 damm how can you tell the difference betweenRA40 AND RA60???????? If I remember correctly the RA40 are a solid rotor and RA60 are vented. Quote
shauns ke30 Posted December 21, 2009 Author Report Posted December 21, 2009 If I remember correctly the RA40 are a solid rotor and RA60 are vented. yep +1 i found that out today  ra40 are solid and you can not put vented rotors on the ra40 coz the ra40 caliper is not wide enough for vented disks!!!!! ra60 are ventented??? what LCA have people used on this upgrade????? i still have the stock ke30 LCA mounted to the ra40's but have camber problems eg. /----\ i need a smaller LCA I'm thinking about 10mm to 25mm smaller???? ke30 LCA ---mm?????? ra40 LCA ---mm?????? plz i need help for this one cheers shaun Quote
