rob83ke70 Posted August 31, 2009 Report Posted August 31, 2009 anybody ever driven a car with brake booster flex, and the horrible feeling brakes that go with it? (think holden rodeo) anybody know an engineering solution to the problem? reinforcing the booster somehow? a thicker smaller diameter booster? any ideas? Robert. Quote
Roo Posted August 31, 2009 Report Posted August 31, 2009 see ones that brace the master cylinder but never seen a booster flex only the firewall Quote
rob83ke70 Posted August 31, 2009 Author Report Posted August 31, 2009 next time you have an ra rodeo (or even an rc colorado or dmax i think) get someone to press hard on the brakes while you watch the side view of the master cylinder, it flexes about an inch (or more) at the booster. problem is the booster is too large and too soft.... not quite sure as to how to fix it as such. Robert. Quote
TE278U Posted August 31, 2009 Report Posted August 31, 2009 which way does it flex? does it go sideways or up and down? or does the booster seem to compress? i have seen bracing that goes from the strut tower to the front of the master cylinder, but not sure if this would help you Quote
parrot Posted August 31, 2009 Report Posted August 31, 2009 I've got a cusco master cylinder brace on my AE86. It bolts to the strut tower and stops the master cylinder (and therefore the booster) moving forward. Quote
rob83ke70 Posted August 31, 2009 Author Report Posted August 31, 2009 that would be the go. the booster moves forward at least an inch. maybe I should look into something like that for those pesky vehicles that this is a problem with. Robert. Quote
tas_ae71 Posted September 3, 2009 Report Posted September 3, 2009 a brace from from the back of the booster where it bolts to the fire wall around to the front of it...? its a top veiw, blakc is booster, green cylinder (and little squares are bolts) red is the brace... just a thought. but if it is what you say it is then it must be dangerous and i can't see how it could be able to flex an inch then go back to its normal shape. philbey Posted September 4, 2009 Report Posted September 4, 2009 So the actual front face of the booster is flexing? Not the firewall? If you really don't like it, just weld a couple of fat ribs down the front of the booster. Pull it apart so you don't melt the guts. Or like felix said, get a hydraulic booster. Quote
