Evan G Posted August 30, 2009 Report Posted August 30, 2009 i got a ea resinator lying in the shed, I'm thinking to remove the ke55 one and put the ea one in and rip the baffles out the muffler? would it be tooo loud and sound like arse? Quote
altezzaclub Posted August 31, 2009 Report Posted August 31, 2009 More research needed... There are three or four popular designs of muffler- *Straight-through with angled holes and fibreglass packing. Noisiest. *One pipe like above, but bent into an 'S' inside the casing so it is a bent-straight-pipe. Quieter but still rorty. *The inpipe goes through 1/3 of the muffler with holes and f'glass packing, then an empty middle 1/3 completey open, then the exit pipe goes out the final 1/3 via holes and f'glass. Better flow than stock and better noise. Quieter than either above. http://z4.invisionfree.com/lexusaltezzaclu...ic=2629&hl= *The typical one where a pipe goes all way down one side, the gases make their way back up to the top, then the exit pipe runs all the way down the other side. http://forum.altezzaclub.org.au/index.php?showtopic=2421 The thickness of the outer casing is crucial in stopping drumming and resonating inside, some have three layer casing (steel, f'flass, steel) othrs have quite thick stainless outer walls. Whatever you use make sure its heavy... ..and more recent designs with outside pipes and/or the adjustable flow paths using a remote. I have a nice design if anyone feels like making a production run of say 5 units... Quote

Straight through mufflers work BEST on everything (any car. any engine, any exhaust system). The trick is to use the right size muffler. The more volume the muffler has the the quieter it will be. Felix Posted August 31, 2009 Report Posted August 31, 2009 (edited) Muffler comparison In their tests the Reverse flows tend to be quieter than the straight through mufflers. Edited August 31, 2009 by Felix Quote
Evan G Posted September 7, 2009 Author Report Posted September 7, 2009 i cut my original muffer apart last nite and removed all the baffles, question how will it sound? loud when giving it the stick? only loud when I'm flat out with my fat and quiet when crusing? drone and loud all day long? Quote
KNG_555 Posted September 25, 2009 Report Posted September 25, 2009 I'm thinking of doing the same thing, but I'm after something that idles like a rotary, that nice bridge port sound...but with out the rotary engine would be great :jamie: Quote
philbey Posted September 25, 2009 Report Posted September 25, 2009 Your Zorst won't make it idle like a rotary. A cam with oodles of overlap and a light flywheel will though. Quote
Evan G Posted September 25, 2009 Author Report Posted September 25, 2009 *writes in note pad* i see :jamie: Quote
rob83ke70 Posted September 26, 2009 Report Posted September 26, 2009 omg lets make my 4k sound like a tractor!!! if you take the exhaust baffles out/mufflers off your k engine (or anything else) it will be incredibly loud, attract the attention of police (and the sort of trashy feral girls you see walking the ghetto around here) and it will send you deaf. it will drone really bad, and sound more like a tractor than anything else... oh and you won't get a gain in power either. if your engine is stock or close to it get a 1.75" system with straight through perforated tube resonator (as long as you can fit under there) and a straight through perforated tube muffler, preferable with a 2" or smaller tip, and it won't be droney and will actually sound nice when you get into it. if you have work done to your engine, go a 2" system.
