baggus Posted August 28, 2009 Report Posted August 28, 2009 Hey guys as the title says I'm just after some engine bay and engine mount pics from some RE ke's. Just so I can get a fair idea of how every one has mounted there rotas I personaly know of two or three ways but don't know which is easiest or cheapist, as I have found a 12a for sale. Quote
kangaroosa Posted August 28, 2009 Report Posted August 28, 2009 The only way I have seen it done on all 4 setups I have seen including my own. Quote
13BT_KE20 Posted August 29, 2009 Report Posted August 29, 2009 crappy pics but you get the idea. Mounted to the front, small nolathane (very hard) blocks between mount and K frame. So basically solid mounted crossmember cut and rewelded lower to allow better clearance for the sump and also allow the motor to be mounted lower in the car :y: Quote
baggus Posted August 29, 2009 Author Report Posted August 29, 2009 cheers guys great help the only other way ive seen it done was with my kp starlet it was mounted on the original 4k cross member (which was modified) and it was mounted on the center plate of the rotary, conversion is prety much a go now found a motor and hopefuly ill buy it on the next pay day and from there on just buy bit by bit, don't be shy keep the pics coming i need all the help i can get lol Quote
kangaroosa Posted August 29, 2009 Report Posted August 29, 2009 I thnk the 13B's have the mounts in the middle of the engine, but can be converted to have the mounting on the front plate. Was the starlet a 13b or 12a? Quote
baggus Posted August 30, 2009 Author Report Posted August 30, 2009 Hmm ok. Um it was a 12 but the engine was a mix and match sort of build it had 12a turbo housing and bridgeported plates and n/a rotas, I didn't build it so that's all I know Quote
13BT_KE20 Posted August 30, 2009 Report Posted August 30, 2009 all early series motors mount from the front cover, any 13BT or newer motor is mounted off the centre plate of the motor. This is how they came from the factory but can easily be changed thanks to the old/new being interchangeable Quote
Tally Posted August 30, 2009 Report Posted August 30, 2009 so if you change the timing cover to a 12A one you can mount a 13Bt from the front? would you say mounting it like you have in your ke20 is the best way to do it? Quote
13BT_KE20 Posted August 31, 2009 Report Posted August 31, 2009 so if you change the timing cover to a 12A one you can mount a 13Bt from the front? would you say mounting it like you have in your ke20 is the best way to do it? you got it!, you'll need a sump to suit to. I use a S3 13B one. If your going turbo you will need to find a 12AT front cover (goodluck getting one cheap) or tap a fitting in for the oil drain. Quote
Tally Posted August 31, 2009 Report Posted August 31, 2009 yea ill just get a 12A one and tap a fitting aye.... S3 sump? s3 rx7s don't come 13b haha... rx4? Quote
