SoulSearcher Posted August 27, 2009 Report Posted August 27, 2009 (edited) Howdy, I'm thinking of buying my daughter a car...and I've come across a gorgeous little 1.6lt 1987 Honda CRX at auction it's straight, the interior is tidy, and it's at auction for 2500, the other cars I've seen have sold for around 3500, there is virtually no work to do to it (except for a bit of paint on the bumper) I figure it's a bit sporty, very little power :y: I don't know alot about these cars and wanted some input so I'm wondering what are your thoughts on this car??? got the year wrong, so I've fixed it up... 7shades Posted August 27, 2009 Report Posted August 27, 2009 Beware the Honda... They're great cars when everything is working as it should.... but dear lord... if it has a mystery 'gremlin' expect to spend waaay too much time on Honda forums trying to work out what it is... Quote
kiahn Posted August 27, 2009 Report Posted August 27, 2009 little power? they call them pocket rockets for a reason, they are quite nice as a whole never heard anything bad bout them actually, sporty, handle great and reliable Quote
KEhendo Posted August 27, 2009 Report Posted August 27, 2009 i have a civic form 85 and the only criticism of hondas is that the bodies wear out before the engine does. but like an early corolla in that respect. please correct me if i'm wrong but is this the del-sol version with the taga? i have always like the look of these cars and i'd probably be driving on now if i didn't buy my ke20. SoulSearcher Posted August 27, 2009 Author Report Posted August 27, 2009 looks sort of like this one: http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Honda-CRX-1987_W0QQ...4#ht_500wt_1182 Quote
Raven Posted August 27, 2009 Report Posted August 27, 2009 CRX eh? Civic Racing eXperiment or so I've been told thats what it stands for. Honda's are pretty reliable and my cousin works at Nordic Honda in the city, so if you get it and need parts, let me know :y: Quote
maxyboy55 Posted August 27, 2009 Report Posted August 27, 2009 the CRX's as are most honda's are great cars, but the only downside to the crx is the panels are hard to find and if you do find any, they will be expensive Quote
irokin Posted August 27, 2009 Report Posted August 27, 2009 So whats wrong with a corolla.... huh? huh?! :y: Quote
KEhendo Posted August 27, 2009 Report Posted August 27, 2009 I've come across a gorgeous little 1.6lt 1997 Honda CRX looks sort of like this one: http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Honda-CRX-1987_W0QQ...4#ht_500wt_1182 er, now i'm confused. is the car 1987 or 1997? Quote
maxyboy55 Posted August 27, 2009 Report Posted August 27, 2009 Oh yeah, with having to look out the back, the spoiler and splitting piece for the boot would make it a bitch to see behind you :y: Quote
Felix Posted August 27, 2009 Report Posted August 27, 2009 Oh yeah, with having to look out the back, the spoiler and splitting piece for the boot would make it a bitch to see behind you :y: The black panel at the rear of the hatch above the taillights is see through dark tinted glass on those things. Redwarf Posted August 27, 2009 Report Posted August 27, 2009 Hard to find one that hasn't been anally penetrated by a previous owner. A bit like buying a second hand WRX. I really have a soft spot for them, but soooo hard to find a good one..... Quote
Victim Posted August 27, 2009 Report Posted August 27, 2009 Go for it mate. Nothing wrong with a Honda (we'll all grudgingly admit) in terms of a car for your daughter... It's not like she'll be concerned with things such as FWD understeer or torque curves. Other than that, they've got power when they need to, they don't look too bad, and as long as you treat them well they'll last a fair while, although finding a CRX, like Redwarf has pointed out, that hasn't been riced up to the nines is usually hard, but if you've found one that defeats that problem. But as someone above pointed out, they can be a bit annoying to problem solve (i had one of those 96 EK hatchback ones for a while)... Went ok, but i found them a bit fiddly and picky to work on. Nothing you couldn't overcome with patience, but just worth mentioning. Quote
SoulSearcher Posted August 28, 2009 Author Report Posted August 28, 2009 uh my bad, its an 87 :y: and I've found one that's in near overrated, original condition....and it's a limited edition...she may never get to drive it.... :S there's nothing wrong with a corolla, but she doesn't like the look of the earlier ones, and all the really nice ones she does like are outside my budget for her.
