SLO:KE Posted August 27, 2009 Report Posted August 27, 2009 hey guys I'm just after some advice on getting a bit more out of my 2tg. its in a ke55 coupe and bought it off a guy who aparently already had bored it out to a 1.8 with "lumpy" cams. (don't know the exact grind) twin solex carbs and with a 3t crank. just wondering some other good mods for these engines without going forced induction just yet thanks! Quote

Well it sounds pretty worked as is. You can do some headwork. ie bigger valves, port/polish, valve springs etc. Not really much else you can do to the bottom end apart from perhaps a balance and/or lighten of components particularly flywheel - you can probably buy racing flywheel's for these but wouldn't be too cheap. Lets see.. Exhaust. That's all I can think of. To get your head fairly tripped out you'd be looking at $600 to <$1000. Not sure on the price of a balanced bottom end, but wouldn't be too cheap as you'd have to pay to get it rebuilt also, unless you want to do it yourself. Flywheel (if you take it off yourself) I'm guessing <$150 to get balanced and lightened. Exhaust around $350-$450 (+$200 if you haven't got extractors). Quote

About the only major difference between the 2t (1.6Lt) and the 3t (1.8Lt) is the crank they both share the same size bores of 85mm 2t - 70mm stroke 3t - 78mm stroke Quote
styler Posted August 27, 2009 Report Posted August 27, 2009 tuning and flywheel probably best first options as mentioned. Quote
Doogs Posted August 28, 2009 Report Posted August 28, 2009 tuning and flywheel probably best first options as mentioned. This is definitly a good start. A mate got his tuned a while back and it made a huge difference. The bloke he went to worked for about $80 an hour and he spent one and a half hours on it. (Although of course this varies with how much needs to be done). If you do have cash to throw around, gains can be made in the top end. Bigger valves and ports would be good and balancing might not be a bad move. Quote
SLW42 Posted August 30, 2009 Report Posted August 30, 2009 tuning and flywheel probably best first options as mentioned. A thing not many people know about the 2tg flywheel is there about a kilo or two lighter than the 2tc's or 3tc's from factory so there is already a wee bit of a gain but you can always go lighter man!!
