simsey Posted August 27, 2009 Report Posted August 27, 2009 I've got a 1982 AE70 Hardtop Corolla, with hard 8kg springs up front and modified factory struts (same size as AE86) to adjustable coilovers. I'm thinking about what sort of caster to run for a good responsive steering setup.. Positive? Negative? I've read ALOT, but I'm still pretty new to fully tuning suspension setups as this is the first car I've built up myself. I will be putting in ke30 control arms which are 10mm longer than factory *e7* ones to give myself about 1 deg negative camber. What have you all got on your cars? And what effect does it create? ke70dave Posted September 3, 2009 Report Posted September 3, 2009 what ever you do don't put on any NEGATIVE castor!!! that wont go well.. id suggest a few degrees of positive camber (pulling the wheel forward in reference to the strut top) since you are only running 1 degree of static camber, a few degrees of castor will work well in inducing some dynamic camber. essentially its up to you really, get say +3 camber dialed in, and see if you like it. more positive castor will make the steering a bit heavier when going slow, but it will make the car track better at higher speed. for the record i have had zero castor on my ke, with -2 degrees of camber, for about a year now. and its ok. but i find the steering is too light on the highway. gonna wind it up a bit when i install the new castor bushes Quote
running.with.scissors Posted September 3, 2009 Report Posted September 3, 2009 i am curious to how people adjust their caster? in particular the ae92 model. The only kit i can find is a bush for the front control arms ut it only icreases left caster by .5degree and right hand side stays standard Quote
cuppas Posted September 3, 2009 Report Posted September 3, 2009 there was one guy who pulled a shonky in his datto 1200 by installing camber-adjustable coilovers sideways, so they adjusted caster instead Quote

I guess you really only really need enough caster to return the wheel to straight coming out of corners. You can add as much as you want, it will make it turn in harder. After a point however you will find it has high speed oversteer that is hard to control. Just play with it and find what you like. Quote
13BT_KE20 Posted September 3, 2009 Report Posted September 3, 2009 I'm running about +2-2.5 in my car, definitely makes the steering a bit heavier but nothing drastic. Prob dial in a little more once i get a bit more negative camber (just need to adjust my camber tops) Quote
