iv never known toyota to put a letter before a digit..if you look at all the toyota engines made..there is always a digit(s) before the letters..

this is because the engine is share engineer with daihatsu...dauhatsu engine start with latter

not surprising, consdiering toyota have owned daihatsu since 1972

 

a paseo uses a 5e-fe motor, 1500 but otherwise pretty similar to a 1300 4e from a starlet. it's the "big block" starlet engine

 

and i've played around with a 4e-fte, apart from the fact you can't get rwd gearboxes or bellhousings for them, nobody makes spigot bearings to suit, and nothing bolts across to a K motor either

could always go with a custom bellhousing to T50 g/box..

why bother, a 4age would be worth as much as the bellhousing, and it's a better motor than a 4e to start with
