You'd be looking at a $10K+ engine there easy! It'd have some grunt in it for sure... and loads of rare goodies in/on there too!

I have seen that engine in the flesh its in a japanese toyota museum suppose to have 185 hp and i think they would have noticed it if i tried to put it in my pocket and leave with it :) when i was there they were also restoring a 2000gt awesome looking car that at one time held a world distance and speed record :)

you will find pictures of the tom's 150e (aka: 3k-r) engine on hiro's

site here - http://homepage2.nifty.com/hiro-cy/ - as you can see, they

bear little similarity to the engines we have in our cars, twincam head,

waste spark, mechanical injection. god only knows what other block mods

have been done

 

they were made for international group 2 racing in the 70s for kp47

starlets, i have a document with some tosco/trd part numbers but

considering there was probably one or two of these engines made, ever,

you'd never get hold of one. the engine in hiro's pics is rumored to be

an item of interest in some old japanese racer's loungeroom. later trd

catalogs for 4k-powered kp61 starlets use the ohv head like our motors

do, just with bigger valves, twin dellortos, cdi ignition, engine and

diff oil coolers, custom gears, big disc brakes, etc etc

 

there's a guy on rollaclub.com (by the name of "blown 5k") who claims to

have been to japan and seen a starlet or corolla getting around with an

ex-race 3k-r engine, apparently they haul ass

 

if you're keen for a twincam engine in your corolla, a 4a-ge is a good

start. a 2t-g would be a close second, though a little heavier. you can

also convert a suzuki swift g13b motor to rwd by using sierra 4x4 bits,

and they're a stout little engine. a 1g or 3s will also fit and is legal

in ke30-onwards :)

and it is a 3k. look at the manifold side ribs and welsch plugs around the distributor, unmistakably a 3k. besides which, 2t and 4age have different valve cover and bolt arrangement

what museum in Japan was it in???

 

if i go back to work for Suzuki i'll try and get there.

i know toyota have a museum in Nagoya and it's only an hour up the road.

how about k3-ve head...its got 16v, 1.3cc....but don't have any chance to really measure it to fit on 3k...maybe u guy had something...just a curiousity... :)

What on earth is a K3-ve head? Is this a Toyota engine?

it a new engine develop by toyota and daihatsu...it use in toyota passo, daihatsu terious, etc...it equip with vvt....the engine look similar but ...i don't know much about it spec..it use timing chain, 1.3cc, 16v vvt, and also got it turbo version..
