love ke70 Posted June 12, 2011 Author Report Posted June 12, 2011 i see i see, so i could in fact, set it all up unboosted, see just how bad it really is, then if I'm particularly unhappy, setup a remote booster, as its totally unrelated to the M/C thanks for that mate :) Quote
love ke70 Posted August 15, 2011 Author Report Posted August 15, 2011 OK, so cage is booked for commencement saturday I put the missus to good use yesterday and actually drew a basic outline of the cage i want to build, front and rear, and an optional rear. opaque grey members are optional pending fit in the car.... reason for roof bracing done like that is so its not above the head when driving, so it keeps me street legal with ease, and obviously carry that same design down the rear stays to keep it strong, my concern is how much protection i have from crushing of the main hoop with this setup. thats the front view of the same design, with the bracing to the strut towers, it looks a bit wonky, but we couldnt work out how to make it look any better, and its really just so i can show all you helpful people, and also the fabricator what i want essentially. thats my other alternative. we have moved the taxi bar for the harnesses from the main hoop to the back stays, which in the corolla at that height is probably less than 200mm i would assume. gives me double diagonal bracing in the main hoop to give me more protection against crushing, more weight though...and is really gonna look like a jungle gym in the back there... i dunnoooo, thoughts opinions and suggestions? obviously braces to all bends where possible will be added, can't do anything that will cross the door opening unfortunately, but cage will sit back from door opening a bit, so should get some in. pics of progress will be forthcoming if we get started lol Quote
love ke70 Posted August 15, 2011 Author Report Posted August 15, 2011 and just for the sake of it, ideas for connections for the front hoop to the pillar And this is a possible option i thought was quite neat for keeping the taxi bar for the harnesses as close to the seats as possible, while still maintaining the X brace in the main hoop... Not sure why this fellow has not gusseted all of those connection points, i am thinking i will, but not sure on how much my fabricator will like the idea... i do like the gussets in this thing http://cagethis.com/2009/12/porsche-944-complete/ Quote
BUZ440 Posted August 15, 2011 Report Posted August 15, 2011 Andy you going to the boot / parcel shelf or wheel wells, In terms of racing I'm not a fan of the taxi bar, have one down as low just above the trans tunnel sp you can hook your harnesses to, and yeah X brace behind the seats that cage is like FIA spec, something id like in a Mk1 Cortina If you keep it as close to the A pillar you can weld it to dicrectly, but id you need to have plates to brace to the A and B pillars Lot of work ahead of you Quote
love ke70 Posted August 15, 2011 Author Report Posted August 15, 2011 rear stays will go to the tops of the spring towers, as cage has to stay between axle lines to meet cams, and its convenient (sort of) to mount coilovers at a later date ;) taxi bar at shoulder height put harnesses in perfect angle for cams, if i drop it right down to the floor its way outside of the acceptable angle. why are you not a fan of the taxi bar? the cage is a little over the top, but id rather do it once and be happy with it, its one of those things you really can't simply modify once its welded to the floor. lots of work indeed, good job Luke at turboshop is a good guy :) Quote
BUZ440 Posted August 15, 2011 Report Posted August 15, 2011 haha cage over the top, never haha always good to get it done right the first time Taxi bar i don't know, guess always been a fan of the diaginal bar, mine is simple tho Quote
love ke70 Posted March 21, 2012 Author Report Posted March 21, 2012 YES its long over due Nothing has happened. you can all garn get ʞ©$ɟed :P but in all seriousness we built the rear half of the cage, and had 2 stabs at the front hoops, but decided to do it exact, as in, can see the pillar to either side of it, we needed to have a proper seating position. I think that was mentioned earlier that we had been in discussion with a shop about approaching transport regarding the use of a non ADR seat on the road. well 6 months on, i finally rang the seat company, Velo, and they said, oh we told them that they wernt going to get the paperwork out of us, cause the testing people have changed hands and its too hard no one knows where it is etc. I rang the shop, KCF rallysport, Keith is a great guy, i highly recommend people go there, even after all this, and he said he hadnt been told that information in such terms. either way, i rang my engineer, and he's happy to sign off on the seats using the FIA approvals, without the paperwork, and draw an equivalency to ADR standards. so 6 months on, i should have just done it myself it turns out...but owell I bought 1 seat and 1 harness, as I'm broke, rebuilding my patrol and setting up a canopy on it so seat was ordered http://www.velo.com.au/itemdetailspage/31936 and harness was ordered, 6 point hans compatible, in green, and seat will have green stitching not yellow for the logo http://www.velo.com.au/seatgallery/ i quite like the look, and will suit the final colour, which i think we have narrowed down somewhat. extra seat and harness will be ordered pre rego when my bank balance is a bit healthier. cheers andy :) Quote
BUZ440 Posted March 22, 2012 Report Posted March 22, 2012 KCF are a great place and have moved, only up the road from me here, Progress is slow, along with this weather most things arent going to fast, get that patrol done and get onto this Quote
19914afc Posted March 22, 2012 Report Posted March 22, 2012 Pretty sure you can't have intrusion bars for street cage? And also heard of rules getting stricter once NCOP comes in making it harder to mod plate things. Quote
BUZ440 Posted March 22, 2012 Report Posted March 22, 2012 Pretty sure you can't have intrusion bars for street cage? And also heard of rules getting stricter once NCOP comes in making it harder to mod plate things. This I am finding hard to understand, I cut mine out, but seems people are still getting around with them, and no padding around the head area, it seems if its CAMS approved its ok by QPS and QT, I'm getting all sorts of conflicting info, even from both agencies and engineers, bah Quote
love ke70 Posted March 22, 2012 Author Report Posted March 22, 2012 side intrusions are a no no bolt/clamp in are fine, just can't run them on the street, its cause if your in a bingle and the fireies can't get you out with a side intrusion in the way same as no part of the cage can be across the door, all about egress, same as shaved door handles, but i don't think theyve banned that outright yet? Quote
love ke70 Posted March 22, 2012 Author Report Posted March 22, 2012 not if you speak to my engineer, and it was started and deposit paid before then, so if push comes to shove we will back date, but my engineer has heard nothing of it and is still happy as larry to sign off on it. Quote
oh what a nissan feeling! Posted March 22, 2012 Report Posted March 22, 2012 Roll cages will be ruled out with ncop. There is no ncop in qld as yet, 1000 internet rumours, but if you speak to any engineer in qld they know nothing of it. Quote
