nichy Posted August 17, 2009 Report Posted August 17, 2009 Hey guys i have a 4age out of a ae82 and I'm looking for a full gasket kit on ebay cuz I'm cheap... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/85-89-TOYOT...sQ5fAccessories now I'm having trouble matching which kits are for what and i have found that one... but don't know if it is right... also will a small port kit fit a big port? except for the intake and exhaust? Cheers Nichy Quote
Instigator Posted August 17, 2009 Report Posted August 17, 2009 Dunno about the smallport kit on a big port, the heads are different so I'd say the gaskets are as well. Bottom end is same same for both motors. I found the cheap ebay kits after I already bought my rings, bearings and gasket kit. If I do it again I might try one. I paid $400 for it all from Bursons, probably worth paying a bit more to make sure you get the right stuff. Quote
parrot Posted August 17, 2009 Report Posted August 17, 2009 I bought a cheap bigport full set off a UK seller ages ago. Even with post it was really cheap. Main factor for me was that I wanted the OEM style metal gaskets for the inlets. The ACL set I looked at via repco at the time had fibre inlet gaskets Quote
nichy Posted August 17, 2009 Author Report Posted August 17, 2009 i know I'm going to get the wrong kit... just need to know if there is a way to tell buy looking at the kit or what not .. lol well its 200+ from bursons of like 60-80 off ebay.... and i don't plan of working the engine all to much so i don't see the point in getting the best gaskets around haha Quote
beerhead Posted August 17, 2009 Report Posted August 17, 2009 Only the inlet manifolds are different, you can use the rest of the gasket set though. Bigport come with 2 intake gaskets because of the TVIS plate. Quote
KENut Posted August 17, 2009 Report Posted August 17, 2009 I would recommend getting a good gasket set. Sure, its $250 odd, but mmm quality. The main cost is the head gasket, which is fair enough, its pretty important. You get what you pay for and a crap head gasket will be a pain in the bum bum. My 4age had a crap one. Whoever put it in had to drill holes for the water jacket ports cos there weren't any. Quote
parrot Posted August 17, 2009 Report Posted August 17, 2009 That's easy. Don't use the head gasket in the set, put a TRD metal one on instead. Quote
nichy Posted August 17, 2009 Author Report Posted August 17, 2009 i was thinking something like that...... lol it just seems cheap for everything... thinking about it Quote
Instigator Posted August 17, 2009 Report Posted August 17, 2009 How much do you spend on fuel in a month? I can bet it's close to if not more than $200. You really think it's worth skimping on something like gaskets which if they stuff up can result in engine failure and a costly rebuild? Considering they last a lot longer than a month average the cost out over the life of the motor and it will be diddley squat. I know a lot of us are into Corolla's because they're cheap but as all people that have a few years experience working on their cars will tell you: Do it right the first time, save yourself the money and the hassle in the long run. nichy Posted August 18, 2009 Author Report Posted August 18, 2009 its like the whole buy a brand name thing... everyone told me not to get a hyper gear turbo as they were shit ... funny enough it ran fine for the 8 months i was running it on 18 psi.... didn;pt miss a beat and is still pushing 17-20 psi daily. i have been cheap about alot of things over the years but still did everything else the same as i would if i was using $$$ parts. and funny enough i have never had too much of a problem.... and if it was it was my own fault not the products. my question has been answered and i don't see where the questions says tell me What brand to buy... but thanks anyways :) Thead can be closed now :y: Cheers Quote
