Yeah I know it's kind of uncharted territory. The whole point of my Rolla is to do everything possible myself, learning as I go. I'm shocked at how far I've come in the last 12 months.

For the cost I'll take the risk with it. Got a few clued up mates helping out.

What was pre-edit? :P

Bad spelling. :P

Thought I might of got a roasting for saying Megasquirt :)

There have been plenty of people get them running ok. They just arent a highly featured pre built unit with much after sales support. For that reason I personally wouldnt be interested in one.

If youre in it to learn then thats ok. Thats kinda what its for. :y:

i used a megasquirt-2 on my 18R-GE with good results.

Not a bad ECU at all, especially for the price!!!

RedKE70 - ok so you want a hand controller for wank feature then?

Go ahead and buy a microtech.....

really once the car is tuned you have NO need for a hand controller, other than to wank over the fact that you have one and are just as cool as the other homos who hang one from their dash.

haltech is all id use.

the last 20v i wired was in a aw11 with only the base e6x model.

used factory idle motor and factory sensors.

ran and idled perfect with a dead cold start up with no accelerater.

but that is coz because hitman injection tuning done the tuning. (highly recommend)

that is all

Any good ecu will have cold motor enrichment at startup. I saw a BMW E30 race car that had no cold enrichment the other day, she started fine but backfired and carried on till it was warm. It had a megasquirt. Nice car though.

As youve pointed out the most crucial thing is to have an excellent tuner.

Megasquirt are cheap ... yes, but doesn't have the features you want to really get the most out of your motor.

You only can run your injectors in batch fire (factory manufactures stopped doing this mid 80's)

You can only run wasted spark with an ford EDIS module and trigger wheel(1 igniter driver only)

It's 2009 people! Get something modern with some bells and whistles that can milk every last bit of power from your motor.

You want full sequential injection (4 drivers) if you're really keen many of the late model ecu's will let you choose the motors angle of rotation for when the fuel is being injected into the port, another few hp and heaps better atomisation of the fuel air mix.

Coil over plug ignition rocks, no leads to replace and the coils generally get 300K+

You'll only get two really good days if you buy a microtech. The day you buy it and the day you sell it to someone else :worship:

I find my idle is very stead usually with no idle control.

The only person who deals with Adaptonic near you Sian is Bits of Italy in Dandenong. I have only partially dealt with one of the guys in there once and I saw some seriously stupid shit.

Also I have a wideband Lamda sensor you will be able to use in the future when your ready

Yea I saw bits of Italy on the adaptronic website. I was surfing the net and also found a place called Status tuning that has apparently built a couple of 4A sprinters. There was also some talk of people buying adaptronics from them, so maybe they were a dealer/reseller in the past? I was gonna give them a call and talk to them.

What kind of stupid are you referring to? Stupid as in bad, or stupid as in awesome?

stupid as in me wanting to hit my friend for even listening to them. My friend was chasing some ignitors because he didn't listen to me about corolla coilpacks having their own. So he goes to the Bits of Italy guy and he doesnt sell him the most unreliable external ignitors I have ever seen but the asian copy of them... right. After that he didn't even want to refund the money.

You can't go wrong either way matey.

That's a relief to hear. I was seriously considering adaptronic but theres no tuners around for them. Does anyone know anyone good with Haltechs in Melb?

Also, can anyone recommend which ECU from the haltech range, I was looking at the E8 last time but their lineup has changed now. I know the two interceptor ones are out of the question as they're piggy back ECU's, but what features should will I need/should I look for in the others.

EDIT: Also, could someone quickly explain the term wasted spark, and if it applies in my situation?

EDIT x 2: Googled it, I see that wasted spark is when one cylinder sparks on the compression stroke while simultaneously sparking another cylinder on the exhaust stroke, what I don't understand is why?
