Werty_1987 Posted August 7, 2009 Report Posted August 7, 2009 Hi, I have bought a KE20 Automatic. But I want to convert it to Manual. What do I have to buy to make this happen and what modifications (if any) would I have to do. Anyone who knows please help me.... Cheers Werty Quote
Rich_Rolla Posted August 7, 2009 Report Posted August 7, 2009 Clutch pressure plate, driveplate, thrust bearing, clutch fork, spigot bearing, manual tail shaft (can get the auto one cut and shut), manual gearbox x-member, slave and master cylinders, pedal box, fly wheel and of course the gearbox. You can often find manual conversions pop up. But I'd sugest getting a pit for this. It'll also take you 2-3 days...if you have some idea of what you're doing. http://wiki.r31skylineclub.com/index.php?t...nual_conversion Has step by step instructions. Quote
son of stig Posted August 8, 2009 Report Posted August 8, 2009 pretty much as listed above except the master and slave cylinders, the standard manual setup runs a cable straight from the pedal to the clutch. if you can get ahold of a workshop manual, read the sections on manual and auto gearboxes a few times and it will all sink in eventually. As long as you have all the right manual bits it should all be fairly straightforward. It can be done alone, but definately easier if you have a mate to help out with some of the heavier stuff. Quote
RA28GT Posted August 9, 2009 Report Posted August 9, 2009 I'm doing this conversion in a couple weeks.Ill let you know how it goes. Quote

Oh yeah, didn't think about that. A ke20 wouldn't have a hydraulic clutch. Quote
kexxxclub Posted August 9, 2009 Report Posted August 9, 2009 (edited) i have done 3 conversions on ke20's in the last 8 yrs. all the ones i have owned i converted myself, the things listed in the other post are all true and correct, except with the tailshaft , find out what size universal joints they have, there are 2 different sizes. The jap version is the smaller uni, and the aus borg warner version is the bigger uni. ( these are the things held in with the circlips which hold the yolks in place. You will just need to get the correct size manual yolk and replace it on your tailshaft. I have never found a problem with using it on a auto tailshaft. The reason you will have to change it, is cos the output shaft on an auto trans has fewer splines than the output shaft on the manual gearbox you will be fitting. Then when you are done you will go to start the car and it wont start :lolcry: , you will have to bridge the start inhibitor switch , which will be a white four pin plug, located under the carpet , just in front of where you removed the T-bar shifter (originally plugged into the t bar) . Make a small bridge wire, with male electrical terminals, and bridge the two black wires in the plug, then do the same with the two other wires. Your car should now start Good luck its quite easy, do it in stages, don't hurry your first one. I'm handy on the tools, it takes me around a day and half to complete at a moderate pace. Allow two to 3 days, or better still replace your pedal box one day , so the car is still drivable, go and have a beer , then do the other bits a day or so later . Makes it alot less stressful on your body Trust me. any questions msg me I'm happy to help out . Edited August 9, 2009 by kexxxclub Quote
