Evan G Posted August 1, 2009 Report Posted August 1, 2009 (edited) am i better off cutting a quater panel off another ke30 and welding it on? suggestions? Edited August 1, 2009 by Evan G Quote
oh what a nissan feeling! Posted August 1, 2009 Report Posted August 1, 2009 If thats all that is wrong with it, definately fix it. If the rest of the car is in the same condition, its probably a bit too far gone. Quote
Evan G Posted August 1, 2009 Author Report Posted August 1, 2009 theres a few small bubles appearing in the front quater panels, and chassis rust near the radiator support Quote
Redwarf Posted August 1, 2009 Report Posted August 1, 2009 That's fine. Fix that. That's the area which they all tend to go. You'd be hard pressed to find one at the wreckers in better nick. Fibreglass and bog are your friends. I've fixed far, far worse than that. Quote
Evan G Posted August 1, 2009 Author Report Posted August 1, 2009 phewww thats good to hear, i make a shape for it and oxy it on , what do i use to kill the rust once and for all? cheers Quote

Evan G Posted August 1, 2009 Author Report Posted August 1, 2009 fish oil? i mean like rust inhibitor? Quote
parrot Posted August 1, 2009 Report Posted August 1, 2009 (edited) The ONLY way to fix it for ever, is cut back to clean metal, weld in a replacement section and then fish oil it. Then make sure your boot doesn't leak. As well as checking the seal, make sure there is no water and muck getting in from the back of the wheel well. The section near the fuel filler is a little trickier as it has that swage line very close. Presumably that came about due to damage. It really depends on how large the damage and rust area is as to how you manage that. Edited August 1, 2009 by parrot Quote
Evan G Posted August 1, 2009 Author Report Posted August 1, 2009 yea I'm gonna cut it out 2moro, please someone tell me about this fish oil? weld the new section in a soak it with fish oil for a couple of days? Quote
parrot Posted August 1, 2009 Report Posted August 1, 2009 Finish the repair, paint etc, then you spray fish oil inside the cavity. It just puts a coating on the surface that resists water getting in. You can buy it in pressure pack cans these days, one will be enough. Really good to protect cavity areas you can't otherwise reach via a small hole. Once you get started, you will end up spraying the whole car with it. Quote
Evan G Posted August 1, 2009 Author Report Posted August 1, 2009 yea I'm gonna respary the whole car anyways, thanks for the info parrot  Quote
crispyke35 Posted August 2, 2009 Report Posted August 2, 2009 Hi Mate Another product you can use that acts like a primer is 'Rust plus'. It is green looking stuff (looks identical to the phosphuric acid rust converters) that you wipe on and leave it to dry. Once it's dry you can either leave it on and paint over it if you have bare metal or wipe it off with metho. I would recommend wiping it of but i have a mate who restores cars all the time and he leaves it on. But still once you painted put the fish oil on it, apparently sump oil works good too. The rust plus stuff just creates a seal that stops rust from developing under your paint, or at least limits it as much as possible. Cheers Jacob Quote
Evan G Posted August 2, 2009 Author Report Posted August 2, 2009 sump oil rofl  , thanks for the info jacob  Quote
greenmac80 Posted August 2, 2009 Report Posted August 2, 2009 essentially to stop rust you need to ensure that ALL bare surfaces are covered and the car is sealed. the petrol filler i would go to a pick a part or u pull it and cut that section outta another car. well its what i did. makes it pretty easy to repair. now that section rusts because behind the chrome there is a rubber seal. that seal perishes with ages and water gets trapped behind it. same thing for your side vents make a seal to go behind em. cos water can get in thru there. it then will sit and rust out your bottom quarter. Evan G Posted August 2, 2009 Author Report Posted August 2, 2009 i was think just to go to the wreckers with a electric hacksaw and pull the whole quater panel off ill drill a hole and put a gromit in it Quote
