anastasios Posted September 30, 2009 Author Report Posted September 30, 2009 yea apparently troy was using a 3k head, that was shaved alot, I'm not sure however what rocker gear he was using, thanks for the help taz you have been a life saver Quote
anastasios Posted September 30, 2009 Author Report Posted September 30, 2009 (edited) Ok so the pistons i have in it atm are what i believe to be 4age bluetop pistons which give a comp ratio of 9.4:1 when used in a bluetop, they are a pretty much flat top piston, and i am recommended a min comp ratio of 11.5:1, i think the dome cc is around 6, but I'm not sure of the accuracy of this, would anyone know where i could find the cc of one of these pistons? Taz_Rx Posted September 30, 2009 Report Posted September 30, 2009 Measure it yourself with a syringe and some water. :P Quote
anastasios Posted September 30, 2009 Author Report Posted September 30, 2009 ok another question, does anyone know how to take off the automatic "clutch" round annoying thing on the flywheel, i have a spare 4k and would like to know how to remove it, other than angle grinding it off Quote
Toy-Yoda[RL] Posted September 30, 2009 Report Posted September 30, 2009 ok another question, does anyone know how to take off the automatic "clutch" round annoying thing on the flywheel, i have a spare 4k and would like to know how to remove it, other than angle grinding it off I assume you're meaning the torque converter? You should be able to get to the bolt with a extension piece on a socket driver from the front (fan end) of your engine looking back...... If you turn the flywheel slowly you should be able to see one of the bolts, undo, turn, repeat, beats the hell out of grinding it off...... Quote
Taz_Rx Posted September 30, 2009 Report Posted September 30, 2009 (edited) You mean the torque converter? In the bottom of the GB backing plate there will be a rubber/plastic boot/plug about half the size of a pack of ciggies. Pop that out and you'll see there's 6 or 8 (can't remember that bit) 10mm bolts that hold the torque converter on from behind. :P Edit: Ben beat me to it. Edited September 30, 2009 by Taz_Rx Quote
anastasios Posted October 2, 2009 Author Report Posted October 2, 2009 guys i have another question, my head has a casting number of 81 on it, I'm not too sure what this is, although it is supposed to be a 5k head, any ideas? Quote
anastasios Posted October 2, 2009 Author Report Posted October 2, 2009 also i have a head that is meant to be a 4k head that has a casting number of 4 Quote
anastasios Posted October 2, 2009 Author Report Posted October 2, 2009 also the head with 81 on it does not have lugs under the spark plug holes, I'm just going to assume it is a 5k flat top piston head Quote
anastasios Posted October 7, 2009 Author Report Posted October 7, 2009 ok well i have found out i have a 608 Cam Tech cam in the engine atm so i can now tell the people building my head the valve lift so they can find some springs to suit, here are some specs Rough idle, strong upper mid range and top end, modified engines only. Min 10.5:1 comp ratio. RPM RANGE 3500-7500 Duration Advertised In: 290 Ex: 295 Valve lift .453 so its actually a 4k cam that is in the 5k block, which is strange, i took out the cam welch plug and it seemed as if there was slight wear on it from touching, i spoke to the engine shop and they said it should be ok, also i do not have to run as much compression as i thought i would and will be using 10.5:1, which should keep it around for longer Quote
anastasios Posted October 19, 2009 Author Report Posted October 19, 2009 hey guys another question! whats a good way to get the block clean before i put on my new head gasket? Quote
Taz_Rx Posted October 19, 2009 Report Posted October 19, 2009 I normally just give it a clean up with a paint scraper type tool that has a stanley knife blade in it. Just make sure you don't score it though. Quote
anastasios Posted October 19, 2009 Author Report Posted October 19, 2009 is it necessary to use gasket goo? and does that go all over the gasket? Quote
Taz_Rx Posted October 19, 2009 Report Posted October 19, 2009 Nope. What brand HG you using? Genuine? I usually give mine a little spray with some "copper gasket" aerosole stuff, but its not neccessary. Quote
