Super Jamie Posted June 9, 2005 Report Posted June 9, 2005 wasn't there a turbo r31? yeah, the twincam swap is ages old. i've seen so many articles on it i could probably even do it myself :angrybird: Quote
1G-GTE KE70 Posted June 9, 2005 Report Posted June 9, 2005 my mate is putting a 1g-alphabet in to a vl dunnydore, we found out there is two different types , one with a front sump and the other with rear sump, one is built for the top of the line luxury car, the other for the sports cars but the luxury one can not be upgraded as much some thing to do with the mods toyota made for the sump change, the bad news i can't remember which is which.... negative. front mid and rear sumps. they are all the same engine there were 3 generations of them. Gen 1 7 psi Gen 2 9 psi Gen 3 11 psi I need a front sump for my car. the guy who did it had to make his own sump and it hangs down too low. Quote
Super Jamie Posted June 9, 2005 Report Posted June 9, 2005 wow. there you go! learn something new every day they also had FJs, tho that's getting into DR30 territory. mmm big long 2 door :angrybird: Quote
ancullen Posted June 9, 2005 Report Posted June 9, 2005 Yes, R31 had RB20DET, not RB30ET. From what I've been told (by a mate with a VH wagon with RB30ET as well as from everyone else I've ever spoken to on the matter) the RB30ET has the stronger bottom end than the RB30E. How much of a difference there is, I don't know. In fact anyone that wants a turbo VL or R31 seems to make sure they use the proper RB30ET block (or complete engine) as far as I know. The RB25DET head onto the RB30ET block is a common swap, it does make big reliable power, but not the REALLY big power that can be made from a proper RB25DET or RB26DETT. I've got a mate with an LC Torana coupe with a pretty cool 202 engine who wants to build up a race-use only Torana with an RB25DET head on an RB30 block. Should make some serious power if he gets around to doing it, and the engine should be a little ligher than the 202 (or no heavier at least) as it will have an alloy head instead of a cast one. More power, less weight, who can argue with that!!! Quote
Tiger Posted June 9, 2005 Author Report Posted June 9, 2005 What would be look-out points on both motors in the poll? Just weighing up pros and cons Quote
mikeys toy[RL] Posted June 9, 2005 Report Posted June 9, 2005 excuse me for sounding like a moron; but what did the 1g-gte come out of? i know out here the sr20 is supposedly the shit, if you can't go rotary (drags anyway) i don't know anything about the 1g-gte Quote
Super Jamie Posted June 9, 2005 Report Posted June 9, 2005 here's a webpage with heaps of general toyota info, use it http://www.geocities.com/MotorCity/Pit/9975/tm_index.html Quote
1G-GTE KE70 Posted June 10, 2005 Report Posted June 10, 2005 One was Twin Turbo (1G-GTTE) if it was written out in nissan code :angrybird: but yeah they came out of GZ20 soarers and like GA70 supras. That gemini is 160TU from a few forums. he's on toymods and boostcruising. It's got like 400rwhp or something. I LIKE IT!!!! Quote
irokin Posted June 10, 2005 Report Posted June 10, 2005 Just watch your not confusing 1JZ-GTEs with 1G-GTEs.... Quote
ancullen Posted June 10, 2005 Report Posted June 10, 2005 No, they're not getting confused, GA70 Supra came out with 1G-GTE. There were both GA70 (with 1G-GEU or 1G-GTE options) and JZA70 (with 1JZ-GTE). Of course, the JZA70 was the one to have, but there definitely was a GA70. Quote
mikeys toy[RL] Posted June 10, 2005 Report Posted June 10, 2005 that page doesn't take me anywhere, jamie so the 1g-gte is an inline 6? if so, i'd got sr20 just for ease of conversion, parts availibility and drivibility Quote
mikeys toy[RL] Posted June 10, 2005 Report Posted June 10, 2005 ok, then like i said; go sr 20 just for simplicity Quote
1G-GTE KE70 Posted June 11, 2005 Report Posted June 11, 2005 eh? Wasn't there an early chaser that was supercharged? crown I think? no... cressida I can't remember haha. Quote
Tiger Posted June 11, 2005 Author Report Posted June 11, 2005 Crown :P Yeah.... SR is getting more the votes... and more my attention :) Quote
