Scott_87 Posted July 29, 2009 Report Posted July 29, 2009 I have a ke70 as it stats and I'm looking at putting in a bigger motor 5 or 7k, opinions please? Going to be a daily driven car just can't handle to lakc of power in 4k. thanks all Quote
JiP Posted July 29, 2009 Report Posted July 29, 2009 5K is a good start. Cheap and available. 7K's you have to look harder, do some mods and pay more but you'll get way more power out of it. Quote
Roo Posted July 29, 2009 Report Posted July 29, 2009 4age is way easier then 7k so 5k or 4age it Quote
seabiscuit Posted July 29, 2009 Report Posted July 29, 2009 Wouldn't it be more expensive than 7k? Howso WAY easier? Only difference between 5k and 7k is sump right? Engine mounts don't need to be made do they? 4age is way easier then 7k so 5k or 4age it Quote
kiahn Posted July 29, 2009 Report Posted July 29, 2009 http://www.rollaclub.com/board/?showtopic=12836 there you go, thats an awesome thread bout it Quote
Scott_87 Posted July 30, 2009 Author Report Posted July 30, 2009 So 5K is a good starting point, I've recently got extractors will these fit onto the 5K? What mods have to be changed to fit the motor or is it as simple as in and out job? Quote
Teddy Posted July 30, 2009 Report Posted July 30, 2009 Wouldn't it be more expensive than 7k? Howso WAY easier? Only difference between 5k and 7k is sump right? Engine mounts don't need to bemade do they? Compaired to a dead stock early 80's ke70 with a repo happy -spec 4k -> 7K is wider, the motor fits.. but it doesn't fit totally snug. needs a small amount of massaging. Sump needs to be modified. Standard gearbox isn't going to last too long behind a 7k. Or the diff either. So then theres gearbox upgrade, which is normally hydraulic. And the custom tailshaft & gearbox cross member. Which means the gearstick doesnt line up and the tranny hole needs to be changed, which means the interiour has to be changed, and the plastic surrounds need to be modified to make it look stock. Which means the gearstick has to be bent to obtain standard ergonomics. And the speedo cable to suit. Ae71 pedal box job with custom hydraulics. And the wiring connector differences. And then the exhaust size, and the angle of it. And the 4k starter motor wont last very long on a 7k. Or theres the fact that the dizzy system is different. I suppose then there is the different sized radiator fan, different pully setup, different belt size, which hits the standard shroud, which no longer fits, which means you need electronic fan. Which means you need to have a coolant sensor and wire that up. Which means you need to re-rout emitions for the hole the temp sensor now takes up. Which means you need to know what your doing with lots of spag-bowl lines. Then theres the fact that a standard 7k radiator is 3 times the size of a ke70 one. And considering a 4k got hot with an ADM radiator from new.. Oh, and then theres. Ill stop now. Sure none of these things are massively hard to do in the sceme of things.. But its not a throw in 1 day bolt in job. That is, if you intend on doing it properly. Quote
seabiscuit Posted July 30, 2009 Report Posted July 30, 2009 Ok... 5k is still plenty good then :D Quote
Run Free Ke70 Posted July 31, 2009 Report Posted July 31, 2009 well a guy is selling a ke70 with 5k engine and gearbox for a grand? worth it? has rust but comes with rust repair sections and spare doors and some panels etc! Tally is the guy selling it here in adelaide! i would be looking for 4AGE conversion down the track anyways so maybe i should just get an ae71 5spd! coz gotta change a lot of stuff from ke70 to get a 4AGE in it! but how fast is the 5k compared to the 4AGE? People happy with the engine? Coz i just want a ke70 for a daily that i can lower and put wide-ass wheels on! 14x8 +-0 with guard work. T18 bumpers etc! and then drive it around for a while until i can afford to do a 3SGE or 4AGE conversion! speaking of which what is involved in 3SGE conversion? better to get custom mounts/crossmembers made up or just buy an ae71? LukeAE71 Posted August 5, 2009 Report Posted August 5, 2009 I would be interested to know if that KE70 with the 7K in it is still going or not... there does not appear to be any follow up to the story :D Quote
seabiscuit Posted August 6, 2009 Report Posted August 6, 2009 I've recently got extractors will these fit onto the 5K? If they are to fit any other K series motor then YES! Quote
