Hhehehe, i didnt mean it was diesel, it just sound like a diesel the way it is running!

So 500ish + Freight and stuff.

Are you north island or south? i live in the BOP area, so i don't mind going for a drive to pick it up!

Are u able to get all the gaskets and seals i would need aswell?

As for this VVT pulley, how could i test to see if its that?

Like, i held my foot on the gas steadly and went from 3grand up to 51/2 without noticing a difference. would there be a power difference or anything??

Would that explain that sudden power loss in that drive i was having against that honda?

oops, made a typo, you want black top PISTONS.

not rods, they are weaker.

Yes thats one way to lower compression ratio. B/T has longer and weaker rods. And piston pin to top dia is shorter.

Allso combustion chamber shape is different, so it might be pita to suite B/T piston to match S/T head anyways.

Only thing better in B/T is port sizes and shapes.

On silver, you can use 4A-GZE rods(the stronger ones) for budet option.

If one is aiming to get powah on B/T must change pistons AND rods to custom ones.

Throttlebody size differes from 43mm to 45 on B/T (late silver might have the same 45mm or someone sold me B/T ones as mistake)

whered you get ya measurements from?

I'm pretty sure rods are the same length

yeah combustion chamber is different, but BT pistons work fine.

the silver top rods are the same as the later smallport rods.

small ports have 2 size rods.

there is no difference between 4agze rods and 4age rods. they use the same and share date changes.

the only internal difference in 4agzes are the pistons and rings.

heres a good write up:

wtf? I remembered that they surelly were different length.

Piston height WAS different tho... was it only skirts what were shorter?

There is two different gze rods, and the weaker is same as silvertops. As for silvertop and blacktop rods have thinner spot at upper end, this differes from any other earlier rod for sure.

pretty sure rod length is the same..... iv got some somewhere ill measure.

the pistons are very different..... but do fit and work with a silvertop

the earlier 4AGZE rods are the same as early (not bluetop) rods

the 2 20v rods are different from each other, yes.

weaker isnt the right word... they are very strong. good for 300hp and 9000 rpm. thats the silvertop/late 4ag/ze rods

heres how it goes....

cranks:

bluetop big port engine as in ae82/ae86 40mm rod journals

then ALL other 4ages and 4agzes have the same crank with 42mm rod journals.

rods:

bluetop has one type to suit the 40mm journals.

with the ae92 bigports they had a big chunky rod to suit the new crank

a few months AFTER the small port change they had another rod, this one is smaller than the earlier 42mm version but is still very strong.

the next change is with the black top 20v when it was lightend more. this rod is no good for 8500+

4agzes use the same rods as the corrosponding 4age. there is no special treatment of those rods or cranks

there is a HUGE amount of misinformation about these engines on the net so becareful what you beleive. my facts are from opening several engines and hours and hours of epc work as well as ordering and inspecting brand new items

And the blacktop rod is even more "grooved", than silvertop in the pic. I have on my own silver exactly same rod as on that pic.

you need to photo graph them all together to properly show the differences.

the black top rod is totally diferent, much skinner

i can assure you I'm correct on this, iv ordered brand new ones of all versions and done hours of research :P

I belive you have been working with these, but still i wont give up this easily :P

Even if you order new rod from dealer, they might send you a substitute. Right?

An for those three images i posted. they are from used parts dealer, who has dismantled the engines by own hand.

But is the silver rod i posted same as your silver and gze rod? because the gze rod i posted is heaps stiffer than the silver rod i posted and i have in my garage. there are tohose same grooves on top of the rod and same shape groove that black uses, but they are even more lightened.

According to this tech article, there is 8 different rods on 4A-G** engines.

It says 4A-GE has truelly same rod with stronger gze, but only 9102-9106 perioid...

silver has its very own number like the blackie too.

where in nz are you btw....i guesse it depends where you are too.
