sidewaysvc Posted July 22, 2009 Report Posted July 22, 2009 Hey guys i found this on another forum just last night its a MUST SEE Hi all, post this on all the forums you can at let everyone know!!! A website will soon be up and running with all the details. There will be a public meeting being held in Pt Adelaide at 2pm on Sunday the 16th of August (location to be confirmed) at which all people who have an interest in the proposed Pt Adelaide Motorplex will have an opportunity to not only to hear from the consortium themselves, also from politicians, guest speakers etc. This will be followed by a protest at Parliament House, Nth Tce in the city on Friday the 28th of August at 5pm that will bring the city to a standstill. Police permits will be arranged and we expect total co-operation of the Police. Everyone is to be on their best behavior as there will be a huge media presence. Bring your cars and your family. The events will be self policed so if you see someone doing something stupid that could harm the image of the modified car/motorsport community don't hesitate to report it. We are an important part of the community and we (who do the right thing) deserve better treatment from the Media and the Government. Consider this - A footballer only has to purchase a Guernsey, shorts, some boots and pay his subs to play (the government and councils generally supply all the ovals and facilities). Someone involved in modified cars/motorsport probably spends on average around $30,000 to 'play', whilst at the same time much of that money goes into local businesses creating jobs and apprenticeships. Not only do we not have a place to play, we have a situation where by a private consortium, who wishes to build the track on the land the government offered them (and which the consortium offered to purchase or lease off of the government), with no taxpayer input required, has the offer knocked back because it will 'create more hoons on the public roads'. If you want this Motorplex to become a reality, and can see all the positives for SA that will go with it, just spend a couple of hours of your life to attend the meeting and then the protest, making it one of the noisiest protests in SA history! This is our one chance to show that we, the modified car/motorsport/business community are more than a just bunch of hoons who are a drain on society. Enough is Enough!!! Stay tuned for more news! Regards, The Street Machine Association of South Australia Team. :P
Raven Posted July 23, 2009 Report Posted July 23, 2009 I received an SMS about this and I'll be attending the public meeting. The protest is right near work, so I'll make my way down there straight after work to attend :P I hope to see more of the SA Rollaclub members attending this very important event.
Chobis Posted July 23, 2009 Report Posted July 23, 2009 ^^^ What he said !!! People this is our chance to get something done in Adelaide regarding our lack of motorsport venue. I am a member of SMASA and can tell you this has taken a long time and a hell of a lot of work by some SMASA members and other car and motorsport enthusiasts to get this far. It's now time to vote with our feet. Numbers are what is going to make the biggest impact here and we have to show that this is something that a large amount of people in the community are supporting, NOT just a minority of car hoons. This is not an opportunity for a bunch of idiots to get together in their Commodores and pull skids and make the genuine car enthusiasts of this state look bad as that is the kind of behaviour that has the police in this state acting so tough on anyone modifying a car and also has all of us labelled as hoons by non car enthusiast members of the public. Stupid behaviour at these events will not be tolerated and will be reported to the police as mentioned. This is possibly the only chance we will get to show that car enthusiasts are just average people and want somewhere safe to enjoy their hobby. Get on this people......... it's well worth it.
sidewaysvc Posted July 23, 2009 Author Report Posted July 23, 2009 yeah guys as i said i found this on another forum and should be posted on as many as possible to get maximum numbers and actual car enthusiast's out not just every man and his dog that just own a car and know how to drop a skid eg hoons :P Get on the band wagon people this is important?
Chobis Posted July 23, 2009 Report Posted July 23, 2009 **UPDATE** - Direct From SMASA Could you guys help with getting this message out. Copy and paste where ever you can. Hi all, Due to the completely overwhelming response to the public meeting/protest, the dates will have to be revised. Since the announcement less than 48hrs ago we have received requests from interstate car clubs, race teams, companies and many individuals who wish to attend in support of our situation in SA. Unfortunately due to the relatively short notice this has made it difficult for them to attend and support us in our fight. As we wish to make the biggest statement possible to the State Government we have decided to revise the dates of the public meeting (was Sunday August 16) and the Protest (was Friday August 28 ) We apologise to those who have organized time off work for the Protest, however in order to maximize the impact and to achieve our desired outcome, this is necessary. I'm sure you all realize how big this Protest is turning out, and we want it to be the best it can be for everyone of us. For future news, developments and the revised dates/times of the protest go to adelaidemotorplex.com.au This page should be up and running in the next few days featuring regular updates. Also visit our facebook page http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=1323...872&ref=nf# if you haven't already. The website is now up and running too - www.adelaidemotorplex.com.au That's all for now and thanks to everyone who wants to make it happen. toyocharged Posted August 23, 2009 Report Posted August 23, 2009 today http://www.andra.com.au/article.asp?Id=1938 Quote: Adelaide Motorplex Public Meeting To Be Held Sunday the 23rd of August (Wednesday, 19 August 2009) Posted by Rob Sharp The Adelaide Motorplex Committee has invited drag racing clubs, race-teams, families and friends to attend a Public Meeting, to be held at 2pm, Sunday the 23rd of August. The meeting will be held at the Masonic Hall, corner of Commercial St (Port Rd) and Dale St, Pt Adelaide. The meeting is to inform all interested parties of the progress and current developments regarding the proposed multi-code, privately funded Adelaide Motorplex, and planned for construction in the Pt Adelaide/Gillman area. The development of this Motorsport Park is a positive one for South Australia and the many associated industries/businesses that would benefit from such a world class facility. This project has the full support of the Australian National Drag Racing Association (ANDRA Inc). ANDRA's CEO Tony Thornton will be joined by a representative from CAMS as well as Senior Politicians, Guest speakers and well as the Adelaide Motorplex consortium themselves. There will also be an opportunity to publicly ask questions to those present on the day. Tony Thornton commented, “We encourage you all to attend the Public Meeting and show support for this exciting South Australian project. ANDRA drag racing has continued to grow over the last number of years and Adelaide has missed out on two of Australian motorsport’s leading championship series.” “ANDRA has been working closely with the Adelaide Motorplex consortium for the last two years and we are optimistic that we are getting closer to a result. Drag Racing is pleased that we have been able to provide a base from which other motorsports may benefit,” concluded Thornton. The Adelaide Motorplex will be a multi-purpose complex meaning that will bring ANDRA Drag Racing back to South Australia. ANDRA believes that providing safe and controlled environments where participation by the public is readily accessible is a socially responsible outcome that could offer some assistance to address the 'hoon' problem. If your organisation, business or club has an interest in this very important motor sport issue, ANDRA encourages you to attend. get down to the port and show your support

13BT_KE20 Posted August 23, 2009 Report Posted August 23, 2009 i went down to show my support, would of been nice to see a few more people down there. There was enough to bloke Dale St though, some nice cars driving around the area to so good to see some people bring their cars along as well
benzo Posted August 23, 2009 Report Posted August 23, 2009 I had to work today so couldn't make it down there Sad thing is apparantly even after the massive turnout today (>3500? I heard) it will still most likely not be happening anytime soon :bash:
