hey guys,

just thinking lately,

How did you guys find your cars?

Any interesting stories behind it etc:

i sold my project to a member on this site and have been kicking myself ever since.. and seems there are none in sydney at the best of times..

seems all you S.a. boys have them growing in paddocks down there..

been exhausting all efforts to find them in Sydney..

also Gavclassic if you read this .. how do you find so many of them? or are you bringing them from otherstates ..

might be why i can't find any in sydney .. Gav has them all..

i kinda fell across mine

bought off an old bloke, about 80.

he got done drink driving, handed in his licence and sat it under a tree for 2 years.

one of my mates spotted it and told me, drove down there and gave him $100.

bit of petrol down its throat and a shit battery and it started.

only rust was in the spare wheel well, and a couple of dints from the mail box

fifty thousand odd miles on the clock

original purchase receipts from fitzroy melb

and a big smile on my face :P

I'm waiting for the day I'm in one of those right place right time situations..

still kicking myself for selling mine .. always keep wondering if it got finished or what happened to it..

I wanted a ke15/17 after getting wasted by one at a set of lights in my old 4k ke30. Took me a bit to work out what it was as it was pre-internet.

Anyway a few years later the missus spotted one in the paper knowing I was after one. We went and looked at it, body and paint a bit roughish, but minimal rust being a country car. An old couple were selling it for $1200 with roadworthy and 3 months rego. The missus bought it for me a few days before my birthday, I drove it home and it got locked in the shed to emerge a few days later all wrapped up with balloons and stuff. LOL.

Quite a few years later I had some uni chick do a U-turn in front of me causing an accident. I got a $1300 pay out from her insurance, the parts came off a ke10 parts car I had which cost me $80. Mine owes me $-20 :P obviously minus running expenses and the bits I've thrown at it over the years.

It has been a super little car, I've had it for about 12 years now. It was used as daily transport for 8 years. It isn't exactly practical these days with 3 kids almost into their teens, so is sitting in limbo waiting for its' next rebuild. Will probably turn it into a bit more of a club orientated car to teach the kids how to drive in motorkhanas and stuff when they are old enough.

Many fond memories are attached to the little beast.

I always dug KE10s, since about 98-99. I remember the first sprinter I saw was a purple one (no good) but the shape was mad.

There were a couple of wagons (a couple - no shit) floating around where I grew up when I first got my license. One had a wicked desert-scape complete with cactii painted on the tailgate, the other was owned by a complete tosser. I dug them from then on but never really found one for sale.

Moved to melbourne, met Pete Robinson who put me onto a guy with one. It was a total wreck. I was young and as I stripped paint more and more holes appeared. I stripped it and sent the hulk to the wreckers....

About 6 years later, I'd finished uni and was cashed up. I drove past Pete Robinsons when I was heading out to see a supplier and he had this red wags there.... Holy shit, what were the chances... I pulled in and asked about it. He was selling it for a mate, I told him I'd go think about it. God knows why, I got back to the office and rang him to tell her I'd buy it! Awesome. I wont sell.

thats awesome.. yeh i bought a couple.. one had front damage which at first didnt look to bad and i was going to fix it up but then i realised one of the front chassis rails had a serious kink in it so stripped her and parted her out on this site.. i felt bad about it when i considered parting it out but felt alot better knowing that sacrificing one ke11 would put many more back on the road..

i would never sell a ke16 if i ever got one..

then again the next ke11 or 10 i get probably wont be sold either.. as selling the last one is a re-occuring kick in the head everyday.. and the void wont be filled till i get another..

I found my KE10-B on here about 2 or 3 years ago. Probably payed too much but at the time i had to have it.

My initial thoughts were a simple respray and make it a daily driver. Now that i've started it's turning into a full restoration. I'm quickly getting jack of it just sitting there with no time or motivation to do anything. One day i might get back in to it, but i don't think i'm silly enough to sell just yet...

can you really put a price on something you will be happy with .. .

to the S.A guys.. do you guys seem much of Scotts (??) old ROL.110 down there anymore does it still get around?

loved that think wonder what ever happened to it..

My first KE10 was cool and I wish I had the funds and space to have kept it. But I didn't so it had to move on. I bought it as I changed jobs and didn't get a company car straight away. I wanted something with some chrome and a bit of old school style so started looking on here for an old Corolla - originally thinking a KE20. Then I heard about Peter Robinson who is just around the corner from my place.

Stuck my head in, asked if he had anything for sale. He started with showing me a FWD AE9* machine, but I said "Pete, I was thinking something with a bit of chrome" He smiled and said I have just the thing, and sure enough there was this gorgeous KE10. It was an auto which was the only downside, but it was pretty much a one owner machine and the body was straight, the interior was clean and it looked great. It served me well for 6 months, aside from the original K engine expiring on a cruise through the hills. A 4K motor made it a sensational daily though.

I got a new company car, and the mortgage interest rates were at their peak, so I decided to sell her. Took ages to find a buyer and I took a pretty big hit on the price, but it ended up going to a guy I know through work (who bid for it on ebay unbeknown to both of us!) and he uses it as a weekend fun car now. So I am happy that it will get looked after well.

My KE15 Sprinter was a real bit of luck. The grape vine contacted me and asked if I would be interested in a one owner KE15 Sprinter. Of course I was! So I raced over to where it was, heard all about its fussy owner from his daughters, and promised them it would go to a good home. I spent some time cleaning it up, and working out what it would need to restore (panel and paint and engine rebuild), and realised it was going to be a bigger task than I had the time/energy/commitment for.

At the same time a guy in Ireland made me an offer almost too good to refuse. I liked the idea of it staying here though, and then Parrot came along :y:

I really wish I bought that car

Scott sold it to some guy who lived near me who daily'd it, never washed it, lost a hubcap, and ended up with small primer patches.

It was defected a few months later and just sat in his driveway getting worse and worse.

Last I saw it was for sale on here still defected and requiring a bit of work. I contacted Scott actually and had a chat with him about it, he seemed to think it was too far gone and would require way way too much work to get back on the road. It did sell afaik

Unfortunate, but I guess these things happen. :y:

Cheers, Ben.

Yes, quite easily and the simple fact is i'm not happy with it and i'm not sure it'll ever be finished. It's hardly even been started and it's got a long way to go.

Before i bought my house i didn't care what happened to my cash, now i have other priorities.

I probably should have bought and finished the car before i bought the house. Oh well, one day...... maybe.....
