ke20rolla Posted July 19, 2009 Report Posted July 19, 2009 (edited) Hi, I am in the process of upgrading the front sway bar and adding a rear bar to my ke20. I was looking at my ke55 and was wondering if the front sway bar would fit onto my ke20 as it has a much bigger diameter bar. And also I want to know if there are front and rear swaybars available new. :P :) Thanks!! Edited July 19, 2009 by ke20rolla Quote
kiahn Posted July 19, 2009 Report Posted July 19, 2009 (edited) http://www.pedders.com.au/catalogue put in your car year and what not and it comes up with exactly what you want. pedders will fit them for you Edited July 19, 2009 by kiahn Quote
Evan G Posted July 19, 2009 Report Posted July 19, 2009 ive added a ford ED rear sway bar in my ke55, doing 80kph and you jerk the steering wheel the rear feels heaps smooth and hardly any body roll, but at low speeds it just wants to slide around every corner :) Quote
ke20rolla Posted July 19, 2009 Author Report Posted July 19, 2009 Kiah, Pedders don't list sway bars for ke20's. and Evan G I am after front and rear sway bars for my ke20 as the post says. :) Quote
Felix Posted July 19, 2009 Report Posted July 19, 2009 Have a look on the Whiteline website. You may find you will lose traction and spin the inside rear through and out of corners with a rear bar, unless of course you have either a locker or lsd diff. Quote
coln72 Posted July 19, 2009 Report Posted July 19, 2009 Fitted sway bars front and rear to my 20 and ended up taking them back off. Rear was too stiff and I would be looking out of the drivers window in third gear under acceleration out of some of the corners on the local clubs track. Another option would be Selby's as that was the brand of the ones i removed. Quote
Evan G Posted July 19, 2009 Report Posted July 19, 2009 ke20 - if no one makes rear sway bar for a ke20 ullh prob need to find a sway bar and make it fit, it will increase the oversteer at low speeds but at high speeds its a dream :) Quote
Felix Posted July 19, 2009 Report Posted July 19, 2009 On the old ke30 I had many years ago I fitted a twinned front sway bar and a rear sway bar. Like coln72, I took the rear swaybar off. The rear bar just took away too much rear suspension compliance, and inner rear tyre grip with an open diff. The more power the worse it is. A kid with a gutless stock 4k would probably love a rear sway bar, as it does give more entry oversteer and will encourage corner exit single wheelers to give the false impression of power. Someone who is more serious about handling and cornering power will fit an LSD first before fitting a rear swaybar. They compliment a locker well as due to the unloading effect on the inner rear tyre, they reduce understeer and axle torque loads. Quote
raleigh Posted July 19, 2009 Report Posted July 19, 2009 Hi,KE20rolla.Your orginal front bar is 17mm and if you have the orginal "D'' bushes it will have 17 moulded into them.My new 20mm bar was made to order and took less than a Day.It has made a vast difference to body roll and turn in with out been over done.Kmac in sydney made it for me.I use my car for Tarmac rallies and Historic racing, its driven to and from the track. When choosing sway bar diameter bear in mind things like existing front spring rate and tyres used. There is no point putting a super huge Sway bar on it like a 24mm(Which Kmac will make for you) if you only have average rubber on the front. All you will achieve is spectacular under steer FWD Boys would be in envy of.I have also repaired quite a few craked and busted out chassis rail sections due to hero sise over done sway bars in years past, bear this in mind as a early corolla is pretty lite on in sheet metal guage.Kmac do a rear bar also and from memory it is 16mm. This is my 2cents hope it helps.Raleigh....... Quote
