Dannyboi Posted July 16, 2009 Report Posted July 16, 2009 Hey guys, my name is Dan, i'm from Perth, i'm a second year apprentice fibreglasser with no fiberglassing job, currently working in a motorcycle shop in Midland. Anyways enough about me, I'm getting a KE70 Panelvan Delivered to my house tomorrow arvo and i was wondering what you guys thought would be some good mods to "Pimp my ride" it already has a sony eXplode stereo with 2 6x9s in the rear, planning on slapping in some 6" splits in and maybe a few subs 10" at most, then of course drop it, new wheels (not that there is anything wrong with the ones on there at present) and a crazy paint job and re trim interior. It's a 5 speed manual, it has just received new front and rear brake upgrades, and brand spanking new mastercylender. basically i want to harness as much HP out of the stock engine as possible without spending a million dollars, any hints or ideas as to how would be much appreciated will start a thread in the projects section as soon as i get it. Cheers, Dan Quote
adam-__- Posted July 16, 2009 Report Posted July 16, 2009 (edited) Hey Dan and welcome to the forums. If the car is all straight or close to it, I'd personally do a full service before anything. Just the normal motor oil change with filter, flush of coolant along with the change of thermostat, gearbox oil if you're up for it and might as well do the diff oil. As for modifications to the car, I went with modifying my suspension first to give it a nicer, lower look. It needed a change of shocks anyway so thought why not.. It really depends what you intend on using this car for though. If you're just after a nice daily rider, a nice set of speakers and head unit would be up in the list of modifications whereas if you wanted to hit the track, you'd maybe go suspension first. Getting power out of an NA car will be tough without money. Have you considered a 4AGE conversion or do you just want to keep the standard 4K-C motor? Enjoy your stay. There's plenty of information around on this site. Cheers Edited July 16, 2009 by adam-__- Quote
starni_boy Posted July 18, 2009 Report Posted July 18, 2009 Power from a 4K can be done to make it better, but not make it fast. haha Cam regrind/some kind of cam Head porting, head shave bigger carby stiffer valve springs These would see your 4K making a little more power. Mine has the same mods and it does go a little better than your regular 4K. I would start at these areas if you would want a little more go. 4AGE conversion will be a much better power increase. As for "crazy paint job" and re-trim interior, leave it till last, when your happy with your suspension setup etc. But remember, at the end of the day its a 22 year old corolla, don't go blowing your money on a paint job and interior. That's just my advice anyway. Cheers Quote
kiahn Posted July 18, 2009 Report Posted July 18, 2009 (edited) if you goto how to build a tough 4k motor in FAQ that has some good reading material in there. bascially if you want to get most hp out of stock engine id buy another 4k engine and rebuild it. get a 272 cam, 2 inch sports exhaust, extractors, cold air intake, flywheel lightened, head shaved 40 thou and a weber. this will get good power gain using stock engine, but if you want to really squeeze power out of a 4k you should: bore it out 40 thou and get some oversized pistons, use new bearings otherwise its not worth pulling it apart in first place. when your engine is apart you may want to get it all balanced so that you can rev it hard. get the car looking respectable first then start modding the engine otherwise cops will have a field day with you every time you put your foot down, where bouts in perth you from?
