rjenman Posted May 27, 2005 Report Posted May 27, 2005 This has nothing to do with corollas, but I can't find any website or person who comes up with any reason apart from them being cool or being needed to carry shit in the back. Why buy a ute? I know its an Aussie thing *cough cough BOGAN cough* but surely there is some reason. Anyone know? MalOO00oooo... Quote
Tiger Posted May 27, 2005 Report Posted May 27, 2005 No weight in the back and with an 8 in the front... lack of traction! Throw it around like it's nobody's business. Or you can be like me and see how many batteries/amps/subs you can stuff in the back tray! hahahah Quote
Northen Rolla Posted May 28, 2005 Report Posted May 28, 2005 Depends what sort of ute you buy, you get your Falcodores that are every where, or you get something that's hard to come by and in demand like my Datsun 1200 ute. Power to weight ratio in something this small is the best thing about it, it just doesn't have much in the way of luxury.... so no subs no aircon, but something this small beating 6's and running down the 8's is great. Oh and it's handy for carrying tools around.. or eskies! :) My 2 cents. (not including GST) Quote
Redwarf Posted May 28, 2005 Report Posted May 28, 2005 (edited) Yeh, well, sometimes you just have to put up with the stigma of having a Commodore ute in your driveway.... Edited May 28, 2005 by Redwarf Quote
kangaroosa Posted May 28, 2005 Report Posted May 28, 2005 Most people buy utes for the obvious reason - work. The you get the Country Bumpkins who buy utes to - Install 6 or more Aerials - Plaster the Tailgate in Stickers - Install HUGE truck mudflaps - Install Custom made side skirts - Fit vertical truck exhaust stacks/pipes - Install HUGE Bullbars and lastly, but probably the most common - Install a minimum of two Spotlights (generally 4 or more) As long as they think it looks good. :) Quote
kangaroosa Posted May 28, 2005 Report Posted May 28, 2005 (edited) another fine example. Edited May 28, 2005 by kangaroosa Quote

Big mudflaps: Check. Exhaust: Do side pipes count? Spotlights: Do strobes count? Better sign up for banjo lessons... :P Quote
Tiger Posted May 28, 2005 Report Posted May 28, 2005 There are 3 reasons why I'd get a ute.... 22's, airbagged and a killer stereo install!! This guy has spent this much on his ute... 16 amplifiers @ $999 =$15984 4 DD 9512 subs @ $1279 =$5116 4 packs dynamat @ $330 =$1320 perspex (lots) approx =$3000 40 meters of neon approx =$2000 8" subs in doors @$239 =$479 6" in kicks x 4 @ $239 =$956 alpine nav & screens approx =$6000 cables mmmm lots approx =$2000 motorised amp rack approx=$2000 15 meters suede $750 I'm sure i've missed heaps. subtotal =$39605 that is with no labour added then these got added..... 3510s in floor $1600 Scanspeak Tweeters $1800 2x 17" widescreen LCDs in the back $2200 140 White LEDs $280 etc etc + Install would be at least $20k. So there you go! He ain't no tradie... he just owns alot of toys! He had decked out a 70K Monaro with the plates BLISS but his ex cleaned him up and took the car too!!!! Quote
Super Jamie Posted May 28, 2005 Report Posted May 28, 2005 if you're talking commodores, because the utes are lighter and have better weight distribution than the sedans because utes have the ever-important required number of doors and yeah, they're just cool. maybe it's an aussie thing, maybe it's a guy testosterone hard-work-image thing, but utes are just wicked :) Quote
Medicine_Man Posted May 28, 2005 Report Posted May 28, 2005 I'd love to be able to afford a new falcon ute, then i could tow my corolla with it.. Quote
demuire Posted May 28, 2005 Report Posted May 28, 2005 Stormrider ute sounds so cool :) Best V8 I've ever heard :P I'd own a V8 like that just so I could sit in it and rev it all day :) Quote
coln72 Posted May 29, 2005 Report Posted May 29, 2005 Swapped my first rolla for a ute. (hastily ducks for cover and covers head knowing what is about to come) The offer was to good to let go. 1978 HZ ute canopy/bullbar/lights etc GENUINE 50,000 odd km's original purchase reciepts/books etc never had a radio fitted from new, no hole in dash never been pranged/ original paint and interior been in family from new Wish I still had it but at 19 mpg on the freeway it was a killer when work was approx 130km round trip every day. z|gen Posted May 29, 2005 Report Posted May 29, 2005 utes are nice..lots of people do them over here, body kits, and then airbag suspension, I'm looking at getting a ute for a tow vehicle, possibly a van, one ute id really like is the subaru brumby - they look cool, but we didnt really get them over here, iv seen a couple, but yeah.. demuire Posted May 29, 2005 Report Posted May 29, 2005 Brumby's are funny. They are so fundamentally wrong in so many ways. IE, they have torsion bars in the back, and if you wind them up stiff you get heaps of positive camber in the back (my neighbours Brumby has this problem). They also have their spare wheel in the engine bay. And, the handbrake brakes the front wheels. Hmm. Quote
