I picked this up from shepparton victoria this morning after buying it off eBay for $610. It drove the 3.5 hours almost flawlessly.

Lets see, It appears to have some type of king springs in the front they are yellow and new, new shocks.

a 2" sports exhaust, it sounds really really good, except it drones a little at 95km/h.

a 5k, unknown mods, goes like a shower of shit compared to any 4k I have ever driven, stock carby, ke70 radiator.

Needs a new diff I think, something is grinding in the back end, it I think is a stuck brake shoe, or f*cked bearing, will see when that comes.

1st gear syncro is shot. will crunch if not put back into first very gently.

Only drama I had is the alternator shit itself somewhere and I had to push start it at jerilderie. I got pulled over once for no number plates but the cop and I had a good chat about the car and were on our ways.

Plans....

Repair the few small things it needs

Rego

I want to leave it in primer, makes it look a little rough but I like it as is.

Cheers guys!

Nice pickup mate, well done.

Just thought I should check, do you realise primer is porous and so will let water seep through to the metal

and cause rust ?

Posted

Yeah about the primer being porous, it is living in shelter for now, it does need a little bit of rust cut out (and a socking big hole behind the dash in the vent area).

For now I will treat the rust as it turns up and on a time/money basis work out a new scheme for it, I like the primer idea as it reminds me of a rough rod type of thing.

Cool.

Thats fair enough. Mine has also spent a fair bit of time in primer.

Gave it a really good clean up today, washed the outsaide, pulled the back seat out and vacuumed the lot.

One bonus I found while degreasing the engine was it is fitted with an electronic dizzy.

Things to fix before reg

Front indicator

Rear brakes/diff

Speedo

4x tyres

rust hole in the vent area

rust in sill

washers

I might also have to put a 3k back in until it has been reg'd. :sob:

I hadn't thought of that cheers,

I got stuck into polishing one of the wheels today to see what it looked like using some "California customs, purple metal polish" one came up fantastic after a good couple of hours work into it, I also did a second wheel, very time consuming job, result is very worthwhile though :sob:

One the wheels are done I will takesome more pics. I will also be painting the middle of them black again and getting rid of the center caps.

Fixed the alternator, I put in one from my old ke70, now the chg light comes on when the engine is stopped and the car will keep running if you disconnect the battery.

I pulled the back brake drums too see what is grinding non stop, it appears we had a seized wheel cylinder that was also weeping fluid.

Ordered parts at the local auto gear place today, I just wanted a seal kits to rebuild both sides but new cylinders were $23 each, so I went with them.

When I put these in I will paint the brake drums also.

I Did a bit here and there this morning, replaced the wheel cylinders and fully bled out the brakes.

I can now lock the ke up with ease, it pulls up very nicely, have a heap less pedal travel also.

Upon pulling the old cylinders apart I found they were pitted and rusted.

Also I replace4d the rubber fuel line under the car, it was split and weeping, did not realise that pulling the line off would syphon the tank! so I also had to disconnect it inside at the tank as well.

Pics of it on the lawn, looking heaps better!

I fixed the washers today, all new hose and T peice from mitre 10 cost a whopping $2.40.

Another fuel line split, this time between the filter and motor so I replaced both bits in the engine bay and the filter for good measure.

Ignition coil, was playing up, swapped it with another standard one, I will be buying a bosch GT40 when I am next in town.

Replaced the speedo and cable, the previous owner had broken the clip that hols it into the speedo and then repaired it with masking tape.

Repaired all the butchered wiring behind the dash, it appears when they took the dash apart to install their stereo they unplugged the light dimmer for the gauges, instead of tracing the circuits they just hard wired it to the park lights with a piece of speaker wire that ran all the way to the front bumper. The lighter socket wiring had somehow been incorporated into the headunit wiring and I found a couple of blown globes behind everything.

To repair before reg

Front indicator

Rear brakes/diff

Speedo

4x tyres

rust hole in the vent area

rust in sill

washers

Install a 3k

Engine bay pic with pretty new washer and fuel hoses, just the rest to tidy up:
