quadeyquade Posted July 4, 2009 Report Posted July 4, 2009 Hasn't anyone heard of aluminium or lead filling??????? I haven't, explain? Quote
coln72 Posted July 4, 2009 Report Posted July 4, 2009 Instead of welding you fill the centre with molten lead or aluminium. A lot less heat stress on the gears and should last longer. Quote
kiahn Posted July 5, 2009 Report Posted July 5, 2009 the T-18 diff swaps straight in and you get all the options of t series parts i think he doesnt wanna do a home "botch job" Quote

Taz_Rx Posted July 6, 2009 Report Posted July 6, 2009 can you tell me where can i source one? ....umm from a T18 maybe!! :sob: I know there's one in the for sale section at the moment. Otherwise visit some local wreckers. You then have several sources for T series LSD's both new and used. Quote
Boost+k Posted July 6, 2009 Report Posted July 6, 2009 why not weld it? and yea alloy filling is the other option but i don't see the point, just take it apart and cut some plates and weld them in, you'll brake axels before the diff anyway Quote
coln72 Posted July 6, 2009 Report Posted July 6, 2009 I agree, weld it. We welded the spider gears onto the carrier. Never managed to break an axle in over 12 years, but lost a few centers though. If its to be used on the road, don't even think of welding though. A while ago there was talk of how to convert your standard diff to act like a lsd. Quote
Evan G Posted July 6, 2009 Report Posted July 6, 2009 Hasn't anyone heard of aluminium or lead filling??????? i have, but havent seen how its done or the outcome Quote
coln72 Posted July 6, 2009 Report Posted July 6, 2009 I've never done it either but because the temperatures are lower, there is less "damage" to the diff gears. eg they don't become weaker - and to make it a single spinner again all you have to do is melt out the metal  Quote
