ke71-rolla Posted July 10, 2009 Author Report Posted July 10, 2009 (edited) hmm, missed one pipe on the carby, small one near the bottom, not the vacuum hose or fuel line ok dumb question, but does the webber need a choke to run, cos this one doesn't have it.. Edited July 10, 2009 by ke71-rolla Quote
Taz_Rx Posted July 10, 2009 Report Posted July 10, 2009 Nope. Last 2x webers I used I removed the chokes all together. Quote
ke71-rolla Posted July 10, 2009 Author Report Posted July 10, 2009 hmmmm, what i thought, ill get my mates dad to have a look at it , thanks for the help! Quote
ke71-rolla Posted July 11, 2009 Author Report Posted July 11, 2009 (edited) Ok so I'm havng a few problems with the carb 1- can't get it to sit at an idle, will sit at around 2k alright for a while until it will splutter and die, is this vacuum leak or will i need to play with the idling? 2- is the carb supposed to jet down petrol, or have a fine spray of petrol? atm mine jets down petrol. 3- Pre-Ignition, when i turn the car of after running it for 5 or so minutes, it will get pre-ignition running for about 5-10 seconds longer thanks Edited July 13, 2009 by ke71-rolla Quote
Taz_Rx Posted July 13, 2009 Report Posted July 13, 2009 (edited) Accelerator pump nozzle will give you a spray like a hose, main jets should give you a mist type spray. As for vacuum leaks, spray some 'start you bastard' around the carby base and inlet manifold. If the rev increase you have another vacuum leak as the SYB is getting into the engine somewhere. ke71-rolla Posted July 13, 2009 Author Report Posted July 13, 2009 thanks for that, ill pick up some start ya bastard tonight, fingers crossed aye Quote
ke71-rolla Posted July 16, 2009 Author Report Posted July 16, 2009 (edited) so i took the carby off so i could tighten everything up and make the gasket seal better, now that its back on, it just splutters everywhere, i can barely push down on the throttle, its almost as if its being strangled somewhere. Its a struggle to get above 40....wasn't doing this before -_- A Weber 32/36 DGV is the most common aftermarket downdraft around. Usually you'll need to jet down a carburettor like this, unless someone has already done the work for you, or you have a fairly modified engine. For a 3K/4K, start at around: * 130 mains * 170 air jets * 50 idle and take it from there. Basic tuning tips: If the car "stumbles" forward but revs eventually climb, you're running too rich. If the car just cuts and dies, you're running too lean. That's from the faq, so sounds like i'm running too lean?, this means i'm not getting enough fuel or not getting enough air.....just from gut feelign, it feels like I'm getting too much fuel, where abouts are the screws to change the mix, i've got a photo with the top taken off, are the two golden screw things what you have to adjust, or are these the jets which you replace in order to "downjet" for a 4k engine, if so would i be able to order these from a shop like sprint. Felix Posted July 16, 2009 Report Posted July 16, 2009 The 2 jets you have circled are the air correctors. They trim the mixtures in the higher rpm of the main and secondary circuits. The main jets are in the bottom of the float bowl. I'd remove each jet at a time and write down the number on it. Then find a baseline jetting chart to compare and work from there. Good site for DGV carb info, to help you identify the jets EDIT: Weber Baseline jetting chart Quote
ke71-rolla Posted July 16, 2009 Author Report Posted July 16, 2009 omg thanks for that man, heaps of help Quote
ke71-rolla Posted July 17, 2009 Author Report Posted July 17, 2009 (edited) ok, i think its time to take the carby to a carb tune mechanics, get them to service it and tune it for a 4k, i tried and failed . Webber Carby 1, Me...0 Many thanks to the help and interest i got ^_^ Edited July 17, 2009 by ke71-rolla Quote
ke71-rolla Posted July 20, 2009 Author Report Posted July 20, 2009 Took the carburetor down to a carby shop today, turns out its an oldschool carby for a small 6 cyl car, no wonder why i had a heck of a time trying to get it running!, time to keep a look out for a 32 36 webber carb off of an escort i spose.. Ideally, I would actually be looking for a 28/32, as they are probably a better starting point for a K engine Look for these on Fiat 128s and maybe some of the Fiat 124s (I think the earlier model 1600cc). I paid $100 for mine, overhauled it and got a suitable manifold with adaptor plate off ebay for $40. Cheers, Sam. Quote
ke71-rolla Posted July 20, 2009 Author Report Posted July 20, 2009 cheers for that, spose ill hunt around :) Quote
Felix Posted July 20, 2009 Report Posted July 20, 2009 I'm curious, what is the model code on your weber? It should be stamped on the carby base. Also what size are the venturis (should be numbers cast on them)? If it is actually a 32/32 that you have, a 32/36 is going to be bigger and less suited to a 4k. Is your 4k stock, does it have extractors, exhaust etc. ? Quote
