KE35 corolla vs TA22 celica

hello there good people. i am realitively unexperienced on the really technical side of things, but i am interested in purchasing either a ke35 sr coupe or a ta22 celica. i have decided i like the look of the celica, and the running gear is all good and easily intercahngable without certification, i was mainly wandering which of the two would handle better when done up. either one if purchased i would be putting in a 200+ hp 4age, t50 gearbox, hilux diff etc etc so the coversion would be easier in the celica because it has a t50, similar bellhousing and crossmember, engine mounts would be easy and i wouldnt need cert to change from 2tgr to 4age, I'm not sure what to do with suspension and ride height. i want to be able to corner hard and to reasonable drifts without rolling lol

i havnt found a whole lot of info about the celica, so if anyone is clued up on them your assistance would be apreciated.

i have some general questions:

how heavy? much heavier than ke35?

do they handle bettter than ke35's?

what would you rather:

4age & lsd ke35

or 4age & lsd ta22

????????????????????

imput would be awsome

cheers

i have a daily driven ke35 with a 4age in it.......so I'm biased and say go the rolla!.....the celica would be great to thou.....might be worth more also if you were to sell it.....

Celica has better suspension potential as it has coils in all four corners. As aposed the rear leaves in the '35.

Diff in the '35 isn't as big as the celica, which also has the option of a bolt in LSD.

A stock Celica and a stock Corolla both handle equally badly!

The KE35 big let down is the fact that it has leaf springs in the rear as opposed to the coil sprung rear end in the TA22. There is probably a bit more after market support for the Celica's than there is for the Corolla's, but the key stuff is all pretty interchangeable anyways.

A good '35 is going to be cheaper to find as an initial starting point which might be an influence on your decision, but will also be less valuable once you have spent all your money doing the mods.

Corolla will have a weight advantage too.

I have an RA23 that I am restoring, and a KE35 that I race, so I have a foot in both camps. I love the looks of the Celica. The Corolla is fun on the track. If I could only have one though, the Celica would win.

Oh and one more thing - there is a metric shit load of info on modding Celicas on www.toymods.net - there is a first generation Celica thread on there that goes for nearly 800 pages!

cheers mate. i live in a small town in newzealand, and havnt actually been in person yet with a ta22, so I'm not sure on the size of it compared to the 35, i have a mate with a 35, which is really cool, but i really like the musclyness of the celica, I'm just slightly unsure of its size difference.

i have a mate with an ae86 and another with a ke20, how would a celica with good suspension handle compared to those two with equally good suspension? and how would it weigh compared to the ae86 and ke20?

cheers

ke20 will be lighter, but again leaf sprung, and even less available after market suspension wise than the '35.

ae86 is going to be a better car than all of them as its a more modern car handling wise and has heaps more after market bits available, but its probably a little heftier.

Its pretty hard to say, but I would say yes. I am biased though!

Celica's don't have the rack and pinion steering of a AE86, so that can be seen as a downfall of the Celica.

I reckon bang for buck, the 35 would be pretty good you know. Celica's are generally rusty buggers over here and I imagine its the same there.

Here is a good looking Celica on ebay at the moment.

indeed, but i think i can live with that, I'm no race car driver, so i think the celica would do me good, espicially because no one has them around newzealand lol that one on ebay looks nice, expensive though.

heres one on a newzealand site, it has abit of rust but its very very cheap for what it is http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=225452846

Thats not bad, but watch the rust in the roof and under the windscreens. That can go a long way into the car and make it a very expensive repair.

oh really? oh thats abit lame, how much of a mission would that be to fix?

are you in america?

i have owned one of each(both stock)and the celica handled better at faster speeds, however the corolla handled awsome aeound town. so it all comes down to what you want it for
