Falken_KE30 Posted June 30, 2009 Report Posted June 30, 2009 Had some mud fun on the weekend, and have no found that one strut in front of my 55 is sagging more then the other. Seems i blew a shock in one side. I have pulled the strut out and taken the spring off, and the gland nut off, drained all the oil from the shock. Just wondering how does the shock come out? should it just slide out? And also can i re oil the shocks ? how do i go about that and what oil? By looking at it, it seems to have 2 breather holes of which i put oil down the strut tube and when i pull the shock up it sucks all the oil in, do i repeat this till full? or 3/4 full? The gland nut seems to have a rubber seal which stops the oil leaking out. that right? Ill get pics later Btw they TA22 celica struts Dan Quote
Falken_KE30 Posted June 30, 2009 Author Report Posted June 30, 2009 don't matter, got it out, and all the seals are shot.. Quote
parrot Posted June 30, 2009 Report Posted June 30, 2009 Back in the days we used to play around with different viscosity oils, but these days you throw the piston away and put some inserts in them. Sort of fun seeing how they work and everything, and I am surprised that a car that old would still have 'wetlegs'. Even with inserts we used to add as much engine oil as could fit around it inside the strut tube for "cooling". Did it work, no idea. Just one of those things you did. Quote

Yeah nice, it was pretty cool to see how it worked, as you slide the shaft out of the body it has a plastic washer, it was broken in 3 spots, also when you take the gland nut off there is a another seal that holds everything in line, that rubber seal was split.
