ke30dude Posted June 29, 2009 Report Posted June 29, 2009 Hi there everyone, I am looking at a kexx corolla 3.5 hours away from my place at the moment to buy, she has been off the road for a couple of years. Unreg permit is no problems, I need to drive this one home as my tow car is knackered. I am thinking of the following on a "just in case" basis Coolant Oil Duct tape, (this bogan fix works great on radiator hoses) Tie wire (just in case something like the exhaust wants to start dragging) Battery Jerry can Spanners Socket set Screw drivers. Would there be much else an old K might need to motor for 350odd km, will not be racing it to get home just cruising along nice. Worst case I will have dad following me with a snatch strap. Pics will be up once I have made my mind up and bought it or not. Cheers. Quote
Felix Posted June 29, 2009 Report Posted June 29, 2009 Maybe some spare radiator hoses and water. Fanbelt if you have a spare. Quote
BReNt Posted June 29, 2009 Report Posted June 29, 2009 Don't forget a spare tyre and jack. The rest sound pretty good. That's all I took when I picked up a car 2 hours away. I didn't end up needing any of those things lol nothing ever goes wrong with corollas. Quote
Roo Posted June 29, 2009 Report Posted June 29, 2009 water, coolant, oil being a ke i would also take a couple of can of carby clean Quote
parrot Posted June 29, 2009 Report Posted June 29, 2009 Absolutely as per Felix regarding spare radiator hoses & water as above, and at very least stuff to block off any heater hoses that blow on the way. Probably some brake fluid as the seals have probably dried out and you may need to top up. Don't give them a workout, and make sure calipers/cylinders haven't seized. Quote
philbey Posted June 29, 2009 Report Posted June 29, 2009 Gaffer Zip Ties Mobile A tin of nuts and bolts and various random fasteners (if you got em) Bible, Wooden Stakes Silver Bullets, Holy water don't thrash the living hell out of it, sit on 90 not 100 and watch the gauges. You'll be fine. Quote
archangel62 Posted June 29, 2009 Report Posted June 29, 2009 Remember to change the oil BEFORE you leave.. lol, if it hasn't been driven for a few years, the shit in there is "kaput"... Quote
tojo2 Posted June 29, 2009 Report Posted June 29, 2009 A camera . Something interesting usually happens on these missions Quote

ke30dude Posted June 30, 2009 Author Report Posted June 30, 2009 When I used to do these missions more often when I was into commodores, I remember coming up from melbourne with my bargain for the week, and just hitting shepparton (I was going to central nsw) I dropped a lobe off the cam, but I kept going for another 3 hours, 20km from home I threw a rod out the block and destroyed the motor. But that is the piss poor strength of the black 202 for you lifter noise can also be top snapping off the piston! The motor is a bit newer than the car so with a general checkover we should be good, apparently it still drives great. We will just take some spares in dads car, tow rope, battery, oil, cd player with batteries and take it easy. Quote
ke30dude Posted June 30, 2009 Author Report Posted June 30, 2009 Just won the auction so this is definitely happening by the looks of things. Auction finished at $610 5k, 5sp, etc.... Quote
