Hey fags.

I've picked up a set of TE72 bars (front and rear) for my KE70, and am looking at backyarding them to fit.

I've done some searching of the forums, but "chrome bumpers" and "TE72" gives about eleventy billion hits of people saying "I'm gunna buy some chrome TE72 bars and respray my kesev in kandi pink"... and stuff like that.

Anyway, finding decent pics and info on fitting these bars is hard to find.

So, ive worked out a few things so far.

Front Bar - the bar i got has the TE72 brackets, and fits the car OK but the bumper sits proud. Pushing the bar in further would fit neater, but would need to drill new holes in the brackets.

Rear Bar - i understand you need to make your own brakets to mount the rear bar, by using the original KE70 brakcets and modifying/chopping them down and attaching a new mounting plate for the chrome TE72 bar.

Now cos of the part that wraps around the corners of the TE72 bars have a different end angle to the KE70 bars.... are you able to chop the bars and fit the black plastic end caps to make them match up to the lines of the guards?

See this pic below, how the bar doesnt match with the lines of the guard:

can you chop the TE72 bar to make it like a proper KE70 chrome bar... like this:

.... and then add the end caps to make it fully sick like this:

A couple of things to ponder:

1. Where would you get the end caps if you did decide to take that option? They were on panelvans, etc but most you see are thrashed out and faded.

2. I have seen another KE70 where the person went to the extent of having the guard shaped to match the TE72 bars.. this would negate your 'budget' idea though as it is required both front and rear of vehicle. The front guards wouldn't be so hard but reshaping the rear would be expensive I assume.

Food for thought.

Option 2 is best in my opinion and looks the best :)

i only want the end caps, and yes i have encountered his prices. To be honest they arent bad - have you ever had to buy a re-rolled and re-chromed bumper bar in australia??

I have - RA28 rear bar = $600. JUST ONE BAR.

I would dare say the cost of the end caps isnt going to kill me, and i can use my fedex account at work to ship them :)

ok ignoring the cost of buying the end caps.... IS IT POSSIBLE? I want to know if it works or not, and what is involved.

Those who have done the chrome bar swap??

Mate those bumpers with the end caps come out on nz corollas factory. The end caps can be had here on trademe from anywhere between free and about $50 for a overrated set. No point in chopping down you te** bars though just get some ke70 ones. Theres a guy here thatll sell you the front bumper, endcaps, twin headlight bezels, and grill BRAND NEW for $380 n.z (only my thoughts though it is at the end of the day your car and choice.)

GoodLuck :)

i don't see why the chopping down wouldnt work, you would probably want to get some measurements of what legit ones are making sure the caps WILL actually fit on the end

I wonder how the end caps fit on?

I suppose you could find out how thick the wall is on the jdm bumpers, how long the are and how wide it is etc etc, and compare it to te72 bumpers.

I wouldnt mind the info of all the specs on JDM bumpers as i may be able to fabricate some. Quite easily.

And then just buy end caps and = profit :)

Cheers.

well if someone with a set of JDM bumpers will let me have a play, that would be freaken awesome! Then i can compare and see what needs to happen with the TE72 bars to make them work with the end caps, and if that is even possible.

haha thats my old ke70...

Basically to fit the TE72 bars on a KE70 you have to have the original TE72 brakets front and rear...

For the front you have to drill the bracket holes about 5mm off the original holes so the bar fits nice and flush against the front end..

For the rear, take off the KE70 bar and brackets and you pop your head underneath, you will see two undrilled holes where the chassis meets the rear beaver panel on each side...

drill em out fit brackets, then fit bar to brackets... really really simple... took me about an hour to do each one...

Cheers

i always was thinking about gets t18s bumpers and putting jdm end caps on them, they just bolt on with 2 holes so it should be too hard. you can see from the jdm bumpers you posted a pic one bolt is the top there and the other is on the bottom

but i wouldnt get them caps from the guy in the pillipines, they are only fibreglass copies and quality is crap, my mates one would need hours of sanding to get it to nice finish
