Northen Rolla Posted May 24, 2005 Report Posted May 24, 2005 This was a question i heard on a quiz segment one night on the ABC whilst doing my "overnight" job out western QLD (ABC is all you get)! What make / model of car had been sold the most worldwide... outselling the Leyland Mini and the VW Beatle??? Quote
kangaroosa Posted May 24, 2005 Report Posted May 24, 2005 Thats easy. Its the VL Commodore. LOL - Well it seems that way sometimes here in Melbourne. Amazingly enough, they are all "Interceptors". But seriously, I would take a stab and say in a broad sense - Holden / GMC Quote
kangaroosa Posted May 24, 2005 Report Posted May 24, 2005 I don't want to ruin the surprise before other people have a chance to guess, so i'll type the link and you can click it if you like. http://64.233.187.104/search?q=cache:tcM44...d&hl=en&start=2 Quote
Northen Rolla Posted May 24, 2005 Author Report Posted May 24, 2005 yeah well 2 of ya's got it, The Toyota Corolla... if my memory serves me right it was over 2.5 million sold in over 176 countries!! TAKE THAT LEYLAND AND THE HITLER MOBILE!!! Any lastley.. thankfully not a f@#%in Gemini. :( Quote
Jason Posted May 24, 2005 Report Posted May 24, 2005 not really that surprising since they have been making them since forever  Quote
kangaroosa Posted May 24, 2005 Report Posted May 24, 2005 The new 2003 Corolla is the 9th rendition of that model and, like other Toyota products, the Corolla has been improving and moving slightly up-market with each succession. Since its introduction in 1966 (1968 in America), the Corolla has been the all-time best selling car in the world. More than 25 million Corollas have been sold in 142 countries. You can't argue with success. (Stolen from this Site) http://66.102.7.104/search?q=cache:yM63lan...d&hl=en&start=8 Quote
Mr Revhead[RL] Posted May 24, 2005 Report Posted May 24, 2005 ah! but the mini and beetle (the real one) were not changed all that much.... whereas the rolla has changed heaps! but still, good effort! Quote
Teddy Posted May 24, 2005 Report Posted May 24, 2005 Corolla Rocks. Take some crazy determined Japs, Put them in a room with paper and pens, let them come up with an over enginered car to suit the mass's, make the car last, & value for money (+ a hooole heap of other things) then keep doing that same process over 5 generations (almost 5). Every 2nd car that comes into Toyota is a corolla. every 1st and 3rd these days is a god dam camry  ! Quote
Rolla Boy Posted May 25, 2005 Report Posted May 25, 2005 Theoretically, there are more beetles than corollas... However, the Beetle wasn't always called a Beetle, so therefore, they looe out... Quote
demuire Posted May 25, 2005 Report Posted May 25, 2005 Quote every 1st and 3rd these days is a god dam camry 990-weird.gif ! Hey take it easy on the Camry, they're my favourite car  Quote
dysolve Posted May 30, 2005 Report Posted May 30, 2005 the beatle sold the most cars for a single model but did you know the excel names was changed to the accent for two reason one the excel had a bad name and also it was about to out sell the beatle and rumore goes the hyundai did not want to do that with a crap car Quote
Super Jamie Posted May 31, 2005 Report Posted May 31, 2005 actually, the volkswagen type 1 (aka: beetle) is the LONGEST CONTINUOUS RUNNING model name, though there is a particular Morgan which comes VERY close but was discontinued for a few years in the middle or something. chevrolet's suburban also deserves an honorable mention. the ford mustang was the quickest-selling model ever there is a massive thread discussing all this shit on gtplanet.net Quote
Mr Revhead[RL] Posted May 31, 2005 Report Posted May 31, 2005 the morgan plus 4 ran from the 30s, and is (or was until very recently) still being made. i guess they probably stopped for ww2 though, but the beetle wasnt started untill the end of the war..... yep the mustang smashed a few records... if you add all the camaros, firebirds, javlins etc etc (pony class cars) ever made, the mustang still out numbers them all. and its still going.... where all the others are dead Quote
