G`day all, in another thread there is discussion about the possibility of fitting a 4age head onto a 4afc block. A while ago I asked for assistance/information anout fitting a 4afe into a ke70 and was told in no uncertain terms that it won`t go in because of the distributor/firewall problem. I am happy to accept that advise, but still have the motor and all wiring /ecu etc and am still keen to do a conversion away from a 4K. (I have a complete rolled AE 92)

I believe the 4afc/afe block to be one of the same, so can someone tell me yes or no, whether a 4age head will indeed bolt on. That would give me a distributor that faces the right way after installation. I understand that the inlet manifold will need to be cut and shut and that doesn`t present any real problems.

I want to do this conversion mainly because a stock 4afe has to be better than a 4k any day.

Thanks in advance for your comments.

I'm sure it would be better than a 4k.

I've got a brand spankers 4afe crate motor sitting in the shed. Apart from the difficulties with the dizzy, I've noticed the areas on the block where you would bolt RWD engine mounts are not drilled and tapped.

Yes, yes it will

BUT

Yes the "g" head will fit on the 4a-f block. But, you'll need the crank mounted cam belt cog, the cam belt, the water pump (the only difference between them is a piece of metal), the belt covers and every bit thats bolted to the head including head bolts from the 4a-g to be able to use the "g" head on the "f" block. And depending on what pulleys are used on the water pump, alternator etc you'll also need the 4a-g crank pulley.

You could say that in a nut shell you'll need a 4a-g motor so that you can fit the "g" head to the "f" block.

And the "f" block also misses out on a few things externally - On the 4a-g intake manifold there's a support bracket that goes from the manifold to the block, the "f" block has the boss for it but its not drilled and tapped out. And most importantly the "f" block doesn't have the bosses drilled and tapped for the rwd mounts.

And this from someone who drove one in his ae82 seca twincam for over a year
