hosedogg Posted June 14, 2009 Report Posted June 14, 2009 hey just got a quick question, but 1st the car isn't a rolla. i'm changing my vl from manual to auto, and i don't wanna stuff around with swapping over the auto control ecu. i was just wondering is there a way i could wire up the park neutral switch so that the car wont start unless its in park or nuetral? cause i will be leaving the manual ecu in the car. and i'm pretty sure on this part, with the manual ecu it will just mean that i will have to select all gears manually yes? hopefully someone on here can help me out as no one on ct will answer me =[. Cheers Matt. Quote
philbey Posted June 20, 2009 Report Posted June 20, 2009 I would be thinking that the ECU doesn't even run have an input from the kill switch - It is a 25 year old car. I would say if you take a look at the wreckers at a factory auto car, the switch in the shifter will just be a kill in the circuit from your ignition from the starter. Failing that, all you have to do is wire it in that way. Quote

Failing that, all you have to do is wire it in that way. The auto's do have a neutral safety switch that is activated by the ECU, that then allows the car to turn over. I sell parts for these things quite reguarly :y: You'll need some sort of wiring diagram if you're planning on putting one in, otherwise your car is going to be starting when left in any gear, which could prove very dangerous. Budowski Posted June 20, 2009 Report Posted June 20, 2009 talk to the guys on the commodore forums I'm sure they would have all the info you need. Quote
Shame_inc Posted June 20, 2009 Report Posted June 20, 2009 hmmm i may be wrong but i had a r31 n thats the rb30e motor n mine was auto n i think they have a second computer thing under the pasanger set for the auto cause mine had it my mates cars have it. well thats what think this thing was for cause when i did the manaul convertion i didnt need it anymore cause the manual cars never had it. so u may need to add this other computer thing to. cauld be wrong vls mite have it in built with there main computer :y: Quote
cuppas Posted June 20, 2009 Report Posted June 20, 2009 can't you just mess around with the wires so that it thinks its in neutral the whole time? Quote
Shame_inc Posted June 21, 2009 Report Posted June 21, 2009 can't you just mess around with the wires so that it thinks its in neutral the whole time? yes u can trick it to be in neutral all the time done it to my mates car when it wouldnt start. but what about all the other wires that go to the auto don't they play apart in making it work if they don't y have so many more wires going to the gearbox then manaul. with the manual ecu it will just mean that i will have to select all gears manually yes? hopefully someone on here can help me out as no one on ct will answer me =[. Q? y put a auto in if ur going to choose the gears manaully n if u do this ur only like going to have 3 gears in stead of 4 cause u wont be able to use D so driving on a motorway ur probly going to be reving the s!!! out of it. plus i still think it wont run with out the auto computer stuff but could be wrong never put a auto in to a manaul car alway otherway round n doing it this way i have always been able to get rid of alot of wires n a little tiny computer box thing. ke30dude Posted June 22, 2009 Report Posted June 22, 2009 The vl jatco auto box is electronic with lock up convertor, etc I am unsure if the manual vl's even had a mount or wiring for the kickdown switch, etc. I Put the whole RB30 and auto setup into a vh a long while ago, however I used all the wiring including the dash from the vl. Why not just buy a vl that was factory auto, a standard one in half decent nick can be had for under a grand and it is a lot less stuffing about. Quote
LukeAE71 Posted June 22, 2009 Report Posted June 22, 2009 Why would you convert from manual to auto anyway, your going backwards :bash: If you want an auto then buy an auto :D Quote
philbey Posted July 5, 2009 Report Posted July 5, 2009 Interesting. Learned some new shit. Sounds like a convoluted way of doing it to me! Quote
