beerhead Posted May 29, 2009 Report Posted May 29, 2009 They commonly call this "dieseling on" on a petrol motor. It's formed by red hot carbon deposits on your pistons or your valves being hot enough to spontaneously burn the fuel air mix as it comes into the motor. Not a real drama. Quote
dbr11k Posted May 29, 2009 Report Posted May 29, 2009 also can be caused from not adding valve saver (i don't know what sort of car you have but yeah) basically wears your valve seats out Quote
beerhead Posted May 29, 2009 Report Posted May 29, 2009 Most toyota motors past 1970 run hardened valve seats out of the box and don't need modification to run unleaded fuels. So you're wasting money if you're putting valve save through your 4K. Quote
love ke70 Posted May 29, 2009 Report Posted May 29, 2009 how much ignition timing are you running and what fuel? it will be an issue when the bastard wont stop :rolla: Quote
philbey Posted May 30, 2009 Report Posted May 30, 2009 Yeh, sounds like a timing issue, and it's probably running rich. Quote
PMP020 Posted June 7, 2009 Report Posted June 7, 2009 also check for vaccum leaks. my 3k was doing this many years ago when i first bought my wagon. i realised it became worse after i desided to steam clean the engine bay ? turns out my carby and inlet manifold wererealy only being held on my crud, they were so loose it was running stupidly rich and on shut down was still sucking enough air to make it bang. moral of the story, check that your carby and inlet manifold are tight. then check mixtures and timing. cheers, scott Quote
