yohann Posted May 20, 2009 Report Posted May 20, 2009 hey all i installed a couple month ago so D2 coilover. anyway yesterday i looked in the engine bay and i noticed that the upper mount of the strut is begining to get so crack around one bolt. its exactly the smae on both sides to i assume that its a week point, any way the crack isnt that big but I'm sure it will grow more. what do you suggest to do. is a strut bar will be enought or ive been sugested to weld another thik plate over the flat piece and make a stronger place for the coilover. thank you! yohann Quote
Boost+k Posted May 21, 2009 Report Posted May 21, 2009 sounds like your springs rates are too stiff for your chassis or your hitting the bumpstops alot, i would weld the crack up then make a strut brace, prob one thats a triangle that bolts to firewall, what spring rates you running? Quote
yohann Posted May 21, 2009 Author Report Posted May 21, 2009 if i remember right I'm runing 7 kg on the front, its the softest i can do on these. i was asking' will a strut brace will be enought? ill try and uplaod pics later on Quote
Boost+k Posted May 21, 2009 Report Posted May 21, 2009 it will help because it will hold the tower togeather better but chances are you'll just crack something else because you'll transfer the stress somwhere else Quote
yohann Posted May 24, 2009 Author Report Posted May 24, 2009 it will help because it will hold the tower togeather better but chances are you'll just crack something else because you'll transfer the stress somwhere else so your saying the best thing is to put another plate on the all strut tower top? Boost+k Posted May 26, 2009 Report Posted May 26, 2009 best thing is too run softer springs but i dout you'll do that, a strut brace will help even out/transfer some of the load and stiffen up the front but like i said before a triangle to the firewall will help more but you'll need to weld up the crack first... yohann Posted May 26, 2009 Author Report Posted May 26, 2009 so tell me what you think, ill weld a piece of metal on the strut tower, then weld two bars to go each from the tower to the firewall and one from one tower to the other. how is that sound? run softer spring isnt a option cause i have nowhere to get other spring, Quote
Boost+k Posted May 26, 2009 Report Posted May 26, 2009 like this i donno where your from but are you allowed to go welding stuff to your strut towers? Quote
