Hey all

been in sydney this week so the car hasnt been run all week.

before i went i had a slight problem with my idle but it was only happinn now and then.

the problem before i left was when i would pull up a set of lights or stop etc etc the engine would idle from normal say 800-1000rpm and then it would drop to almost stall to then go back up to the 800-1000rpm mark then drop back down to almost stall again over and over.

it would go up and down like this until i gave it a little or until i would take off.....

i checked the timing and its sttin at about 10degrees advance which seems fine.

now that ive come back from sydney the car will just not idle at all???????

so my question is what should i be looking for and has anyone had a similar problem????

could it be an air leak causing this or could it be a problem with the weber/jets????

any help would be greatly appreciated as it is hard as hell to drive a car that wont idle on a cold morning.

cheers luke

Mine had the same thing happen to it when it used to have the 32/36 on it. I am not 100% sure, but mine seemed to be caused from some crap/corrosion blocking up the idle jet. I stripped the carbie down, and gave it a thorough clean with carbie cleaner and I never had it happen to me again. It still could be a vacuum leak causing it, but if you can't find any then I'd suggest giving the carbie a good clean. Really easy to strip and clean and I think gasket kits are around $40 if you want to fully reseal it.

Good luck :)

ran a seal kit through it with no change what so ever...... the idle screw and other jets all seem clean....so i think I'm gunna call it quits and get the carb shop to sort it out for me.....

Check for vacuum leaks. Water in a sprayer bottle works. Just spray around areas and hear if the car drops in revs. If so, you have found what could be the problem.

Throttle it by hand when your spraying around the engine bay :)

Also, maybe check if you havn't already that the adaptor plate is bolted down TIGHTLY to the manifold and the carb to the adaptor plate. Mine did become slightly loose once upon a time and cause a leak.

picked up some new gaskets for the exhaust and inlet manifold....... i suspect it may be coming from them as i found i have an oil leak coming from one of my oil breathers which runs down to the inlet-exhaust gaskets....to wet to do it today as i can't fit the car in the garage so hopefully the weather clears up tomorrow and ill be able to put the new gaskets on...
