Hi all,

Trying to finally get my beast running. We're hooking up all the wires and need to know what the second wire on the elec dizzy goes to??

1 to the Coil, second wire????

Hoping to get an answer (correct answer) in a couple of minutes :)

From memory, I'm pretty sure it goes to the other side of the coil. That is with the internal ignitor type.

Haven't got one to check though as I sold all of mine. Unless regraphed the advance curve is all wrong on the 5k elect dizzys. A stock points dizzy will make it go harder.

OK thanks. We went with the 3k points dizzy. Somethings not right, we can make her backfire, so we tried the leads the other way around and it almost started, blew smoke out the rocker cover breather and she spits a lot of fuel out of the twin carbies...

I had some 3mm spacers made to go under the 3k rocker assembly as the Datto A12 pushrods were too long. I'm not sure if this has anything to do with the issue, but I'll get some correct length pushrods made and get rid of the spacers.

Also the back linkage on the twins got snapped when we put the engine in the car :) The list just never ends...

EDIT:

We've figured out whats wrong!!

because we put 3mm spacers under the rocker assembly the valves arent opening properly :)

Pushrods should fix the problem :y:

Now to find a linkage...

You are running a 5k head right?

I like the early 3k dizzy's with the octane selector. Makes it quick and easy to dial in the timing for different fuels, and weather conditions. Pity they are getting hard to find with a slop free advance mechanism.

Yep running a 5k head.

Ah, that is why the a12 pushrods are too long. If you have a read through posts about the chev/holden solid lifters with a12 pushrods, you will probably find they are all running 3k heads (which are taller).

Yep.... mine's 5k block, 3k head, chevs and A12 pushies.

Did a bit of a search, no-one on here has converted to solid lifters and kept the 5K head. If they have, they didn't write about it :)

I don't trust the hydraulic pushrods, they feel like they would bend if used with a solid lifter...

You wont be able to use the hydro pushrods with the solids anyway....as mentioned in the FAQ, 5K hydro Pushrods are Ball - Ball...not....Ball - Cup (for adjustability). So you'll need to find some that are the right length AND Ball to CUP for the 3K rockers.
