Attention In Your Corolla

I 'm always getting people pull up next to me in traffic and either comment or want to buy my KE20. I've had an RA28 too and didn't get anywhere near as much attention.

IMO - RA28s crap on corollas. But thats my opinion, and is what i expressed with a little tongue in cheek in the quote from the original post in this thread.

 

I've also driven a KE20 (3T-GTE) for about 3 months, which was in equally unpresentable condition to my RA28.... and i have to admit that i hardly got a second look, except when i accidentally released a skid.

 

The RA28 on the other hand, despite its lack of good presentation, would REGULARLY get notes left on it saying "i want to buy your celica, pls call me...", and people offering to buy it. You'd also get the regular idiot who would comment "nice mustang" or "mad camaro dude".....

 

Greg - your 28 is awesome, however its partly the colour of it that lacks the attention drawing ability that some RA28s have. That is a good thing in my opinon, as you arent going to attract the WRONG attention with it.

I know which one i would prefer out of your KE20 and RA28.

 

 

RA28GT - no offense taken, but you did pic the worst picture of my celica to "demonstrate" your point. Also, you do sport the username "RA28GT", so you are really contradicting your own username with your opinion. :y:

I sorta miss the 28 a bit Karl, especially after seeing what Rod has done to it since he got hold of it. I do like my 20 though.

I thought that grey 28 looked familiar.....I guess it gathers a bit more attention now with side-pipes and a 1GGTE.

My daily's a 55 with an un-original paint job (not by my choice - it's a pain in the ass colour to mix apparently) loud exhaust and grumpy lumpy 4K.

In the few years I've owned it, I've had countless offers from people wanting to buy it and people cannot believe that it's the stock engine. I always get the dumbshits who ask "Aww! What's in that? Is that a rotary? Is that an 8?" etc.

Ever since I've started working at my current job lots of people have commented on what a great car the old corollas are, how some of them used to own the model I have, etc.

The only negative comments I've had are from the sort of people who don't like old school 4-bangers. These people either like their bommodores and falcons or their fully hectic ricers.

Car park at school has got a Z4, Audi TT cab and A4 cab, the Rolla gets most attention. If it's positive or negative, I don't know. I don't really care either. In fact, I have to keep my windows up when driving, otherwise the sex flows out and silly young girls in Hyundai Getz' follow me offering gifts of money, chocolate, and favours of the naked and horizontal variety.

jst my 2 cents worth. with my 20, i've had so many guys offering to buy it. last week i had some dude follow me flashing, so i pulled over and yeh, he wanted to buy the thing.

Get the random quick chats at sets of lights as well, don't get that in any other car!

 

also, the comments from th GIRLS!!chics dig the little 20's! i worked in a pub for a while and the chics loved it! i've got a late model ute, and that doesn't get a look in against the 20, haha!

When I first got my car I got heaps of attention just driving down the road, especially from like 10 year olds pointed with a mouthful of awe lol but now I don't get so much, maybe the world has become desensitised to my car's awesomeness hahah

 

But these days I still get a bit, especially from people in other old yellow cars :y: I get a lot from Toranas actually, maybe just coz they see me checkin out their car haha but every now and then when I'm parked and looking at the car from the cafe or servo or something I see a couple of people standing there checking it out.

 

Don't know why though, its not all that spectactular. Its pretty much completely stock.

 

Oh oh but one day I was driving down the road and went past this car EXACTLY like mine going the other way.

We honked and flashed and waved and the moment was full of joy for all involved hahaha

I did pick a nice picture didn't i Karl? :) haha. I wasn't saying that KE20's are better than RA28, i just said that a nice corolla can attract just as much attention as a Celica. That fact that my username is RA28GT is because my first two cars were 28's, i love 28's and dare i say if one came in in similar condition to my 20 and i had to opportunity to swap i would in a heart beat.

It's a bit hard to compare two COMPLETELY different cars. RA28's are a classic sports coupe. whereas Corolla's are an oldschool passenger vehicle.

TOTALLY DIFFERENT LEAGUE!

If I had the choice, I'd own both. Especially that grey RA28 :)

 

When I had a day left on my rego permit for my KE36 I drove it to school and not one person ignored it.

As soon as I got out of my car... "Nice corolla man"... walk across the road, "is that yours Vinnie, it's sweet"

all day I was getting compliments about the car!

 

I'm sure the same would be said if I drove an RA28 like the grey one, though! :)

We don't get a lot of attention from young'uns in the 20 but the oldies love them. I've been stuck talking for ages with old codgers who say the 20 brings back memories for them. One middle aged couple said they felt "affection" for it because it was like their first car. Hah hah

 

The 25 on the other hand gets many a look. Love it when we pass rotors and they break their necks looking because half of them don't know what they're looking at. Must say, I'd like an rx3 but the tidy 25s are few and far between. Makes for an eye-catching ride at a fraction of the price.

The most attention I get though is in my 2 Crowns, especially the RS41. If I had a dollar for every person that has said "My Pop used to have one of these" I'd have, well...... a lot of dollars.
