LukeAE71 Posted May 5, 2009 Report Posted May 5, 2009 I was thinking about this for the 2009 trip, but alas the head gasket went two days before Christmas on my rolla and plans changed. I am definitely keen on 2010 now that my car will be in tip top shape with new engine and the like. I was going to chat to you about this later in the year Matt and the possibility of us driving up in a convoy to the meet point. Stay in touch because I know you guys went this year and I would be keen to tag along with you guys for the next one.
Raven Posted May 6, 2009 Report Posted May 6, 2009 Yep, I'll be on that one for sure. I've attended every single one since it started and I'm not planning on missing a year at all
Murd 55 Posted May 6, 2009 Report Posted May 6, 2009 deffinately keen to come this year! so much easier when i don't have to deal with school and whatnot and can get time of work!

Budowski Posted May 6, 2009 Author Report Posted May 6, 2009 (edited) Awesome good to see some interest already. The reason i started thinking about this now is because to get most cars in top shape for such a trip sometimes takes some cash to fix things and cash takes a while to accumulate for example. I need to have my exhaust completely redone as i broke the hanger in the GOR 09 caravan park speed hump which made the exhaust drop and snap off at the header flange plus i hate the exhaust. While the exhaust is on the cards i should replace the clutch before i get that done. Need to recon the radaitor and reseal some fittings. Wheel bearings need to be completely replaced on the front and wheel aligned. The Kevin Rudd bonus is going to help. Also don't want to get too personal but having an insured car would be nice, wouldnt want to have an accident with a TE27 tureno and tell the guy you have no insurance. Insurance would still pay out regardless :hmm: But yes, I agree. I might actually get some insurance.

The 5KZ should be in and running by the time GOR 2010 swings round. Decent exhaust, a Manual diff and a decet radiator. Wish me luck guys :hmm:
toms.AE71 Posted May 6, 2009 Report Posted May 6, 2009 ive always wanted to go on this.. ill be in if i have a reliable rolla, hopefully have a different one by then

You really do need to make sure your vehicle is in tip top shape. All sorts of small issues amplify when you take your car on a 10 hour drive. Even things you had thought were "kind of ok" just aren't. I have plenty of time to sort mine out over the next few months and iron out any small hiccups from an engine conversion. As it turns out my wife and I are expecting our first child in October so when I broached this topic with her last night she reminded me that her and bubs will not be up for the trip. I had to hide my excitement  If anyone is interested I will have a spare seat but would like some form of petrol money etc. It will make it cheaper for the both of us that way. Do you have any idea Matt on how much this costed you last time?? I remember reading it somewhere but CBF looking it up. I would have thought about $500 per person would be enough.
dfunkt Posted May 7, 2009 Report Posted May 7, 2009 tip-tip shape......Mick, care to share your thoughts? so long as the car makes it out of your driveway, it'll make it back home after the weekend. no if's, no but's. dF ps, i'll be there again.

Raven Posted May 7, 2009 Report Posted May 7, 2009 Hehe, I had issues yes, all because of a stupid inlet manifold bolt next the carb that was overlooked. Yes I still made it home, just took an extra two hours as I could only cruise at 90km/h. But if it werent for that bolt, the car would have been fine to drive over and back. Magna will prolly be going on the next one though as I doubt the 25 will be done by then.
