basher_ke20 Posted August 12, 2010 Report Posted August 12, 2010 Nice write up man. I am considering a 20 valve conversion into a ke20/30 but there were a couple of things i am interested in. How exactly did the ignition set up work? Using the standard dizzy but rewired??? Other then this i don't see the conversion being too difficult. I only ask because i want to use the standard ecu. Thanks for ur help boys Quote
Sam_Q Posted August 12, 2010 Report Posted August 12, 2010 read this http://www.86garage.com/forums/viewtopic.p...673ce9f7a30773e you don't need the fifth coil though its cheap and effective but so long as you know your making a big compromise Quote
Instigator Posted August 12, 2010 Report Posted August 12, 2010 Just reading through it now, what's the compromise Sam Q? I'm considering ripping the 20v out of my 95 and putting it in the 71. Is it worth all the hassle and cost? Keeping in mind the 16v in it now was rebuilt <5000kms ago and fully balanced. Bit hard to judge having never been in a RWD 20v powered car... Quote
CA-ROLLA Posted August 12, 2010 Report Posted August 12, 2010 I'm not exactly sure but i was gonna do my ignition system like so- aftermarket ecu, individuals coils and a igniter, cap the orginal dizzy and use a a CAS. Is this the best way of doing it or is there something better? Quote

CA-ROLLA Posted August 13, 2010 Report Posted August 13, 2010 sam, i am reading ur article at the moment, a very helpful article indeed. i know the aftermarket ecu is not the cheapest but i have no licence for 6 months so it saving money over time will not be an issue :fuzz: i also think even though its exspensive around (around 1300-1500 dollars for the computer and another 500 to wire) i think it would be easier for the auto electrictian not sure though I'm not a auto electrician Quote
Instigator Posted August 13, 2010 Report Posted August 13, 2010 Do you have much experience with 16v motors Sam? Reckon it would be worth the time, effort and $$$ to do the 20v conversion over the rebuilt 16v that's in it atm? I've been trying to sell the 95 for a while without any luck :fuzz: Quote

I've been trying to sell the 95 for a while without any luck  Depends what you want.... The 16V being healthy should make around 80rwkw (maybe). The 20V might be lucky to make 90 rwkw. So really we are talking 10 rwkw for the sake of prob another $2000. You do need an aftermarket ECU to run the 20V so there is your biggest expense. You also have to consider that the 20V is different, revs different, sounds different, all that. There is nothing like the sound of 8000rpm with open quad throttles. Pure porn and well worth the money just for that :fuzz: I went for a 20V because there weren't so many jammed in 71's then as there appears to be now :? Quote
Sam_Q Posted August 13, 2010 Report Posted August 13, 2010 so you have a 20V in the car your selling and have a 16V in something else? why not do a straight swap? Quote
_FNQ_rolla_ Posted August 13, 2010 Report Posted August 13, 2010 so you have a 20V in the car your selling and have a 16V in something else? why not do a straight swap? Just be aware of the water outlet at the back of the 20v head, it sticks out a long way. Quote
Sam_Q Posted August 14, 2010 Report Posted August 14, 2010 Just be aware of the water outlet at the back of the 20v head, it sticks out a long way. doesnt have to... Quote
basher_ke20 Posted August 14, 2010 Report Posted August 14, 2010 that is sweet water setup i have the blacktop already just need the flywheel setup to suit the t50. I think ur water outlets and shit might have to be the go for me in the near future. Those ignition articles earlier on were very handy and will be usefull in the future thanks heaps Quote
Sam_Q Posted August 15, 2010 Report Posted August 15, 2010 yeah no worries, also you can use any 4age flywheel so long as you use the matching clutch Quote
Sam_Q Posted September 3, 2010 Report Posted September 3, 2010 thought people might be interested to know I am now a reseller for Yager outlets, as I mentioned before I always like the design more than my own so I figured why not. Quote
Sam_Q Posted September 23, 2010 Report Posted September 23, 2010 (edited) as posted on ae86dc: I am thinking of making up a few transmission spacers that go inbetween the T50 mount and the box itself to tilt everything up a bit to make more room on the back of a 20V engine. I know one of the jap companies sell them with their kits, I just don't remember which company, RS Chita? I would like to hear from anyone who has tried one and how it worked out like in regard to how thick their spacer was, how much extra room it gave them and so on. Oh also I finally took a proper pic of how a head looks with rwd parts bolted on: No brass outlet if no heater is used or facing left instead if it's a pre ke70 rolla or celica Edited September 23, 2010 by Sam_Q Quote
