elwood Posted April 13, 2009 Report Posted April 13, 2009 Hey, So i bought a ke30 a few months ago and then one day it started to overheat really bad and smoke would pour out of the engine bay and i got it checked out and it was only a head gasket so i put a new one in and it ran sweet now a few months later the same problem it overheats and starts to make a hektik ticking noise then starts idling really high and smoking, exact same thing that happened when it was the head gasket so i took the head off and the gasket looked fine and there was no water/coolant or anything in the pistons.. Any one know what it might be ? cheers/ Quote
hotdoghogie Posted April 13, 2009 Report Posted April 13, 2009 sounds like an overheating problem... are you keeping an eye on the engine temp? Quote
elwood Posted April 13, 2009 Author Report Posted April 13, 2009 haha its obviously an overheating problem, ive already mentioned that, i want to no what is causing it to overheat so easily. Quote
KEI069 Posted April 13, 2009 Report Posted April 13, 2009 Seeing as though you have already removed the cylinder head, you can't do any tests for the cause of the problem. Your best bet is to take the head to a reconditioning workshop and get them to pressure check it, may have a small crack somewhere. Be worth throwing a new thermostat in at the same time Good luck with it. Quote
luke.t. Posted April 13, 2009 Report Posted April 13, 2009 may aswell get the radiator checked aswell.... mate had this sort of problem the other day in his mazda..... some guy said it was the head gasket... we didnt think it was so we replaced the thermostat, radiator cap and flushed the system....... car hasnt gone over the halfway mark on the temp since... JUST CHECK THE WHOLE COOLING SYSTEM TO BE SURE.... Quote
elwood Posted April 13, 2009 Author Report Posted April 13, 2009 alright sounds good, thanks for your help. Quote
Pete Posted April 25, 2009 Report Posted April 25, 2009 I have found that the heater core fills up with crap if it has been sitting for a while. It is easy to flush out:- find the two smaller hoses going through the firewall one the left side of engine bay. Take them both off, attach a garden hose to one of the pipes (try and get a house clamp on it too). Turn on the tap and flush it for 10mins or so. I found that a big lump of crap came out. This probably wont help the overheating, but it may help the radiator from filling up. also this is the first place to start if your heater stops. Good Luck! Quote
