78_7kRolla Posted April 25, 2009 Report Posted April 25, 2009 I'm liking the look of this alot! That combo should give it a nice kick in the pants. Great to see lots of progress being made. Matt. Quote
never Posted April 26, 2009 Author Report Posted April 26, 2009 Wiring done... or so my mate thinks. Has to check some diagrams to be sure. Rocker cover all painted and on Radiator outlet moved and all water associated hoses attached. Left to do General tidy up Clutch Shorten the throttle cable Exhaust Fuel lines So bloody close now. Can't wait to start the thing up. I know the neighbours are gonna love it with only the extractors connected. Excuse phone pics below was too lazy to grab the camera. For toyota_ae71 - Hope that picture helps and the leads were already there. Quote
never Posted May 16, 2009 Author Report Posted May 16, 2009 Big thanks to kangaroosa for his hydraulic clutch post, made my life a lot easier. The most annoying part of the whole exercise is getting the pedal box out and then back in. I think that they never intended for you to remove it. Have the pedal box in place and just have to tighten up all those bolts they have put in to nifty little places that require you to have hands the size of a small child but with the strength of a gorilla. Next job is to mount and wire in an electric fuel pump. After that provided there are no unforseen f ups i should be done. Picture of pedal box out just to show that i had victory over the bloody thing Quote
towe001 Posted May 16, 2009 Report Posted May 16, 2009 You've just given me an idea. Before i do a pedal box swap, i think it might be an idea to set the box up for an hydraulic clutch before it goes into the car and just have the hole plugged while i'm getting around with a cable clutch Quote
brentae82 Posted May 16, 2009 Report Posted May 16, 2009 thats comin along well can't qait to see it finished Quote
Paul Posted May 20, 2009 Report Posted May 20, 2009 How's it all goin' Dave? My pano's getting a transplant too :y: Have you put the pedal assembly back in yet? If it's anything like the 70 you're going to have more fun re-installing than you did removing, lol. Quote
roladude Posted May 20, 2009 Report Posted May 20, 2009 Could you put up pics of the engine and gearbox mounts please. I am thinking of putting a 3t into my Rolla. Quote

The pedal box was way easier to get back in because I had some idea of what I was doing then. Taking it out is not something I ever wanna do again though... Could you put up pics of the engine and gearbox mounts please.I am thinking of putting a 3t into my Rolla.. The cross member is standard. It just goes in a different spot with a little bit of modification. I think I mention that earlier in this thread. The engine mounts I suspect are celica ones but I can't confirm that as I bought it with them on but it all fitted up perfect. Quick update Clutch is all done. Pedal box, hydraulic line and everything Electric fuel pump is mounted - need mate to come round and do the wiring for me. Tip for anyone playing around with fuel lines or pump or anything like that; empty your tank! I had to drain about 40 litres which whilst a pain in the arse was better than mucking around and getting fuel everywhere. all that is left is the fuel pump wiring and then get it to an exhaust shop to join the exhaust up to the extractors. Thanks to dave for the mates rates at costless and for being spot on with the size nut I would need! Quote

Smallport 4A-GE with T-50, TODA light flywheel, TRD pressure plate, exedy clutch and 4-2-1 extractors with 2" stainless exhaust. Done my pedal assembly, fuel system (surge tank, lift pump and high flow pump), had to drill out the old spot welds for the trumpet that holds the clutch cable and welded the holes back up and got a colour match etc.. so it's all getting done properly. I'm glad I decided to plan to run my car dry to co-incide with the 4K removal night. No fuel = no fuss. Quote

Properly is the only way to do it cause you only want to do certain things once. You will have to get some pics up. Quote
never Posted June 24, 2009 Author Report Posted June 24, 2009 Most dramas are now sorted. Went to exhaust shop today to get extractors connected to exhaust. Was not fun driving around just on the extractors... you know that "I'm calling the EPA" look people get on their faces Off to carby place on friday to get tuned and the timing sorted. Will need the tappets checked at some point soon cause I dunno when they were last done. Don't have the know how to do em myself. Other than that still have a few electrical gremlins and general tidying up to do. But she drives! Vid of engine running below - excuse poor phone quality and dodgy camera work due to the excitement of actually having it running. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6o8eLUfUKgM Quote
