Joe's Ke55 Coupe

Hi all,

 

Recently bought a KE55 Coupe, out of rego in Sydney. I'm 16, Getting my L's soon, and this car will be off the road till i get my p's next year.

 

Just wanted to let you know what i have done so far and plans for the future.

 

So far it has been fixing rust dents etc. . .

 

Passenger door had rotted away in the corner so we picked up another door, and a guard to replace rusting one. Dash pad was screwed so we also bought one off a bloke that was in overrated condition. It currently has a 4k with 4spd, but recently purchased a written of ke30 witha 5 speed in it, another 4k, and doors boot lid etc, which i am currently selling (advertised in parts for sale). Putting the 5 speed in next week some time and will also be selling the four speed which is for sale.

 

Amongst all this we have just been getting everything straight and hopefully planning to get it painted in the next few months, but on Mcslave dollars its a slow and timly process haha.

 

I'm thinking Mazda metallic blue (off the late model RX-8's), as i think it looks hot as. :dance::)

 

Going to lower it a few inches and chuck some nice 16 inch chrome wheels on there :) and looking for chrome bars without the rubber cones :hmm:

 

got a 45mm mikuni sidedraught carby to be fitted once i find extractors.

 

Got a cannon to go on at a later date, :y:

 

I'm thinking sound system, 2 6x9's in front, 2 7x10's on parcel shelf, and 2 12 inch subs in the boot :D:D:D:D Oh that sounds awesome just imagining it :y:

 

Super dark tints (15%), purchased polished rocker cover billet caps for radiator and shock towers, and will be getting carby and manifold polished :y:

 

shield around fan, considering getting it chromed not sure yet.

 

Going to put Adjustable racing seats in the front, Black leather or vinyl, depends on availablity and cost, and re-cover door trims back seat and parcel shelf. :y:

 

Purchasing Valient Charger Fuel caps for dual fillers, one on each side of car, Teardrop side mirrors for doors, and a new rear view mirror. :y:

 

We were going to purchase a 5k and do it up, but presently its obscelete so we will stick with 4k, chuck a bigger cam, 3k head to bring comp up electric dizzy, and that will probably do it, as next year i will probably do a conversion, to last until i buy another road car, where i will then turn the coupe into a full drag car, with full tubs big block engine etc. . . well thats the dream, hope it comes true one day :y:

 

Power windows, air con (if possible?) DVD screens in rear to go with the head unit in front, nice steering wheel (thinking woodgrain but might go something else to match black interior.)

 

Have removed vents at rear of car in quarters, going to make it flat :y:

 

Taking off plastic trimm along sides of doors and the bottom also.

Autometer guages, oil water and temp will go where lighter and old radio were, tacho speedo and fuel will go where clock, speedo, and temp fuel guages are.

 

Head unit will be in centre console, so its looking at me :)

 

Looking at getting a Ke70 centre console/handbrake surround, but will wait till seats are in before doing that :)

 

Plan on doing something with the rear lights as they are huge and really ugly, but not sure what as of yet?

 

So these are my big plans, no doubt there will be more to come, lol

 

and i hopefully will have this all done by the end of 2010, so that my girlfriend and i can go on a holiday after christmas new year before she starts year twelve :) :D

 

If anybody has ideas or suggestions fill me in :)

 

will post photos and comments more over the next year and a half to years.

Hey mate, nice find you have there.

 

Aircon is possible. The units are quite rare but eventually you'll find them. I've fitted half of one so far into my KE55 Hardtop (SL2). I plan to fit another to my panelvan and another to my KE30 sedan.

I too want to put power windows in mine. Let us know how you go, I'm hell keen to see how it turns out.

And as for the tail lights, I'd go the update KE55 hardtop tail lights. I've fitted them to my car.

Ohh yeah those lights look heaps better aye :D

 

Will find a set of them to last until i make some up ;)

 

Still trying to draw a design that fits the large hole that the lights sit in, but looks good to, because size kills in this instance lol. but i guess i will see what happens.

 

I am pretty sure with the power windows its a pretty simple conversion. We had the conversion in our old VS commodore, but with the buttons i am going to use Ford EA power window switches and leave the rear windows manual. One button on left for passenger in the door and two on the right door for me. one for passenger window and drivvers window.

 

I am pretty excited about the whole thing i must say ;)

Have a new plan for rear seat. Rather then trying to put a new three seater in there or retrim the crappy old one, I will be putting in 2adjustable racing seats, to match the fronts that i have to go in, and design a centre console to go from the rear of the ke70 handbrak surround console, to in between the two seats where one of my amps will be neatly placed. :yes: then it allows easy access to the main amp for in car speakers, so that the boot is not cluttered, and the seats don't have to be taken out to get to it :lol: Trying to think if some different little things to do to the console to make it more original, although i think the idea in itself is pretty original.

 

Still hunting down these obscelete 5k's, but the world is not making my hunt easy haha! Wont be long now though. :)

If you can find one, try to locate a KE50/KE55P liftback. It has bucket seats in the back and front that fit right in.
