SA is very different to the eastern states.

MY advise, start with a regoed or registerable shell, regency and old cars don't mixed well.

Ive been several times with numerous cars, each time is has taken atleast two visits (which now cost almost $200 each) plus a repair bill of over $1K (usually closer to 1.5-2K) and i did most of the basic work myself.

on the other hand plate swap that shit up or paint the new car my old colour ha ha

not real funny, and HIGHLY illegal. If court its a very big fine and a hassle to rego ANY car in your name again for the rest of your life.

If you were silly enough to consider it id hope you were stupid enough to tell everyone on a public forum

Charlie it would probably be worth giving this shell one go through Regency, it is quite clean after all.

Just not worth spending say $1000 on repairs and inspections to get through I suppose.

Such a shame the previous owner got it defected as it is quite clean compared to most wagons

I just put a KE55 through regency, $100 on spot, failed on 3 things. fix them and take it back it within 30 days and he signs it off and bam. time for rego.

Aren't you from Tasmania, I doubt you have what we call 'Regency' and if you do it will be a lot different to ours.

Here in SA Regency is a wonderful place where your bum gets treated indecently and if you do not provide your own lube it will be a painful experience

In SA car goes through full mechanical inspection and testing.

$137 first inspection, $66 each further inspection. No time frame given between inspections, just a list of things to be fixed and not allowed to register if it has run out of rego between times. Now you may think this sounds ok but what if you get Inspector A one time and he writes you a list of things to fix and says if they are fixed it will get through. You then get Inspector B next time and although you have fixed the items on the previous list you are given another list and asked to make another appointment.

Also, if a Police Officer in SA sticks your defect sticker upside down, this is an indication that you will have no success at Regency. After the police officer leaves the scene and before the sticky has dried, peel it and stick it up the right way. If an Inspector sees a sticker that is upside down, you are on a hiding to nowhere I am afraid.

If you had to go to multiple inspections you would be looking at hundreds of $$$ not to mention the cost of a permit $45 to drive it down there each time to get checked. It makes it very costly to get these old cars back on the road when they are not worth more than what it would cost to get through.

Nasty,

i just drove mine no rego to the place (5 mins away) paid $100 and got a list back of what needs doing, fix it. take back before 30 days and i don't have to pay the $100 again.

Seems Tas has got it easy

I'm not condoning this activity but there is no VIN number recorded on old rollas until they go through regency. and as long as you put corresponding body year and shape plates on it, proving the rebirth will be difficult for the law.

just throwing it out there!
