emu Posted March 30, 2009 Report Posted March 30, 2009 Got a fresh 5K just fitted into my KE30, 5K didn't come with a dipstick, so am using the stick out of the old 3K, but I'm sure it's not the same Can any one advise on the difference, where should the correct 5K oil level read on a 3K stick ? Trying to get a 5K stick, but no luck so far Thanks pete Quote
JiP Posted March 30, 2009 Report Posted March 30, 2009 I found that the 5k dipstick is flat while the 4k one is more of a solid rod. Plus the dipstick tube on the 5k is bent while the 4k one is straight up and out. Personally i'd try to get a 5k one. Unless your setup if completely differant to what mine is. Quote
Taz_Rx Posted March 30, 2009 Report Posted March 30, 2009 I dare say they'd be the same. I'll confirm with a side-by-side pick in the next couple of days as I have both at home. Quote
philbey Posted March 30, 2009 Report Posted March 30, 2009 Just put a litre in at a time and note where it marks the dipstick each time, then when you've put the full amount of oil in, if your level is different to the dipstick, mark the stick to show the new "full" level. Quote

Jees Phil, how bloody simple is that? I've never run a 5k before, can you tell me the correct oil capacity? thanks pete Quote
Banjo Posted April 8, 2009 Report Posted April 8, 2009 Jees Phil, how bloody simple is that?I've never run a 5k before, can you tell me the correct oil capacity? thanks pete The good book says . . . . 5K & 5K-C Engine Oil Capacity Dry refill with oil filter 3.6 litres Drain & Fill with oil filter 3.4 litres Drain & Fill without oil filter 3.0 litres. Hope this assists Cheers Banjo  Quote
Taz_Rx Posted April 10, 2009 Report Posted April 10, 2009 Finally got around to having a look at this for you. Line up a 3k, 4k and 5k dipsticks yesterday, took a pic but you'll have to wait till I get back to my laptop till I upload it. The 4k and 5k dipsticks were the same length - which makes sense as they're the same stroke, just a bigger bore. The 3k dipstick however was a good 40-45mm longer than the other 2x. So much so that the guauges on the end don't even overlap! So if you used say a 4k dipstick in a 3k (cause I doubt a 3k one would fit in a 4k) and filled it up with the correct amount of oil it wouldn't even register on the 4k dipstick. Quote
