andrew Posted April 28, 2005 Report Posted April 28, 2005 so my housemate has this ep82 starlet gt turbo............. in the year that he has had it, we have researched the use of a few different turbos and boost has been slowly wound up to a max of 20psi. now a few months ago we relised the bearings don't like that. so we track down the guy who built the donk up ( still a 4e) and we found out the engine in fact has ross forgies, and a few other goodies......... all to suit the f@$king standard bearings!!!! what an engine builder?!? back on topic.... so we took a few days to track down some more NDC brand bearings... they didn't make it through the day. so we found NDC pro series bearings, they also failed after a couple of months.. we are now in desperate need of proper bearings. TRD website is absolutly no bloody help. google found a few storys but thats it. does any one have any idea where to find (if they exist) trd or some well known top quality bearing set???????? by the way, boost will be tuned back down! he he Quote
TRD ke70 Posted April 28, 2005 Report Posted April 28, 2005 contact teddy, he has our TRD books and he should beable to give you a part number, or contact Mr revhead he works for toyota. Quote

Super Jamie Posted April 28, 2005 Report Posted April 28, 2005 your problem isn't bearings, it's oil pressure Quote
andrew Posted May 8, 2005 Author Report Posted May 8, 2005 the car had no oil pressure gauge, but i have advised my own3d friend that we are putting one in when it's going again. mr revhead agrees with the oil pressure thing. Quote
TRD ke70 Posted May 8, 2005 Report Posted May 8, 2005 i've got a couple of ideas, when and if you're reginding the crank, get it ground to suit so you get the right clearances, you may need extra baffling in the sump, it could be getting oil starvation on acceleration, and the last would be to lift the oil pressure, but not to high, an extra 20 psi is usually enough. hope this helps. andrew Posted May 11, 2005 Author Report Posted May 11, 2005 hey man thats a really good point!!! i never thought of how baffled it is, and it f@$king launches on acceleration, hmmm, we may have to use sunday to dissasemble the sump and look. thanks dude! Quote
irokin Posted May 14, 2005 Report Posted May 14, 2005 your problem isn't bearings, it's oil pressure I agree very much so with this statement Engine bearings don't work like ball bearings. The shells just allow for a wear surface should they and the crank touch (and they shouldnt touch much). The oil is what does all your lubricating and there should be minimal metal on metal action. Id be looking at your brand, type and viscosity of oil and your oil pressure, pump and maybe shimming your pressure release valve for a nice steady 60psi+. Quote
