KE70MAN Posted April 27, 2005 Report Posted April 27, 2005 yummy, fair enough then, it still looks hell of alot better than stock carby. i might give it a go next holidays then, along with a reground cam! yew! cheerz carl :D Quote
Super Jamie Posted April 27, 2005 Report Posted April 27, 2005 or even a decent cam. anything bigger than say 265 adv degrees would need extractors Quote
KE70MAN Posted April 27, 2005 Author Report Posted April 27, 2005 hmmm righto then.. i went to some site a while back and they had 113 or 114 reground cams?? but i wouldnt go overboard with a regrind, only mid kinda job.. well i can easliy say that the stock muffler is prob restricting flow, so i can get a cannon or sumthing. what are the prices of extractors? what are some good brands that sell descent ones? i have connections with longlast exhaust on king georgers road (nsw) they do exhaust stuff, which i don't know 100% of what they do, but would they make up sum extarctors out of mild steel for me? like do exhaust shops build extracotrs? thanks carl :D Quote
Xany Posted April 27, 2005 Report Posted April 27, 2005 whats this fasination with cannons.....sheeze... why not go for either a straight through muffler or a muffler with one baffle....cannons on old cars look shithouse (some are exceptions). get a nice droopy tip or choose a exhaust tip that you think will suit the car well.....f@$k the fart cannon off altogether...you'll thank me later. ps. it will sound heaps better too... KE70MAN Posted April 27, 2005 Author Report Posted April 27, 2005 sorry for high-jackin medicine man!! all i know of is cannons, so thats why i asked is there anything that is better for our rollas? maybe like an oval muffler with a tip pointing towards the ground, that wuld look half descent.. carl :D Quote
KE70MAN Posted April 28, 2005 Author Report Posted April 28, 2005 ahhh grimmie!! ur a ricer!! look in the background of the photo...do i see a 180sx??? hehehe kidding dude.. would it enhance performance, and sound, to gut the sandard muffler, largen the hole and put a phat tip on it? carl :D Quote
Super Jamie Posted April 28, 2005 Report Posted April 28, 2005 no idea what you're talking about Quote
KE70MAN Posted April 29, 2005 Author Report Posted April 29, 2005 ahhh nah i like nissans grim, they have probably created some of todays best engines. SR20DET for example.. it looks very nice btw.. like will gutting stock exhaust be BETTER than standard? carl :D Quote
rjenman Posted May 2, 2005 Report Posted May 2, 2005 I believe cannons don't really do anything, except make an economy car sound loud. There would be the smallest amount of restriction eliminated by changing the stock tip. Its the difference between wearing lycra biking pants or jeans in order to get the most flow out of your ass when you fart. In that, fart cannons are like lycra biking pants. They probably let the air flow out of your ass better but I mean is it worth looking that gay? Man just fart! Its extractors and that sort of thing you want if you're doing exhuast mods for power, and not just to sound or look cool. Do a full exhaust makeover for a nice power gain, as opposed to worrying about the tip on the end of the exhaust. Thats all the muffler is. It muffles sound. Expensive ones muffle the sound less effieciently.... Quote
rjenman Posted May 2, 2005 Report Posted May 2, 2005 Don't just put a big muffler on a car dude, whatever you do. Drill holes in your muffler or something it will make it even louder. Hehe kidding.. I mean each to their own, some cars do look fairly sweet with a cannon, but in terms of power I doubt you would get much if any power difference with a fart cannon. And as someone else said, its probably not the right style car to have a cannon, but its up to you Quote
Super Jamie Posted May 2, 2005 Report Posted May 2, 2005 i beg to differ with those last two posts one of my mates has a cannon with 2" inlet and 4" tip, just sitting in a room somewhere. you can YELL in the 2" end, and it comes out the tip quieter than normal talking some cheap mufflers you get are really good copies of more expensive mufflers, some cheap mufflers you get are crap. however, one would hope most expensive brand name mufflers would have good flow characteristics there are sometimes cases where even a tip can help, one magazine did dyno runs with heaps of different exhausts on the same car, on the same day. they found a solid 3kw gain on that certain car, just by putting a tip on that was 1" bigger than the pipe diameter. that doesn't mean it works for every car, but it can work there's a saying that goes "an exhaust is only as good as its first 4 feet" and i couldn't agree more. though any point of restriction reduces the efficiency of the exhaust Quote
rjenman Posted May 3, 2005 Report Posted May 3, 2005 Yeah expensive ones still muffle, not usually as well as a stocker! A completely absent muffler would make an extremely loud and illegal car. I would be interested to what design goes into expensive mufflers, whether it be for best flow possible or mainly making a nice noise. Interesting stuff though, 3kw is a difference! yes I agree any restriction loss whatsoever would have to be a positive one, but the tip is not the place to mod cars for power, 3kw is not much. If you were doing a full exhaust I guess having a good tip would be appropriate, every bit counts... Quote
