1.6hydro Posted March 27, 2009 Author Report Posted March 27, 2009 Basically have to get the best horsepower out of a 16 valve 4age without major modifications! i.e Std cams, valves, Cast pistons, We run twin 45 webers! Have always used big port as I was told the cranks and rods spin up faster!! Never had much trouble getting 7500-800rpm But the guys with the smallports just have that extra HP which I am now after so plan is 7 rib block, Cranks are great std, Will fit arp bolts to rods, ACL pistons I want the 10:3:1 compression ones?? 0.5 or 0.7 Head gasket, Bigport head or smallport head with BP Cams??, Have a BP Weber manifold and Twinn 45's. Need ignition?? either a scorcher made up one or std dizzy with a Hyperpac on it (anyone used one??). Or a Electromotive CAS Light as possible flywheel. If anyone has some imput go right ahead :( Quote

If anyone has some imput go right ahead :( The bigport has a lighter bottom end, You just missed out on a 4ag scorcher dizzy/ignition on ebay, I think it sold for 300 bucks, I'm using a Hyperpak ignition and it works great, I also recommended it to a mate of mine and he has it in his daily driver, A good light 4ag flywheel is a 3.6kg, You can get them off ebay if you don't wanna get yours machined. The flexplate will come from a 20v, Try your local importers, They normally sell on the forums for around 70 bucks. Yeah they are. Quote
1.6hydro Posted March 27, 2009 Author Report Posted March 27, 2009 The engine is in a boat. It is a lightweight racing Hull, And our class rules are 16v 4age stock with Twin webers, open ignition and exhaust. :( Quote
Hiro Protagonist Posted March 28, 2009 Report Posted March 28, 2009 Pin heights are the same, but bigport have an 18mm gudgeon pin, smallport 20mm. 7-rib bigport has same big-end and gudgeon-pin size as the smallports, 3-rib have the smaller ones Quote
beerhead Posted March 28, 2009 Report Posted March 28, 2009 I reakon it might be worth trying the Jaycar programmable ignition module. Can be configured to work with factory dizzy's reluctance pulse from a bigport dizzy too. I personally haven't used one yet, but jaycar sell some decent gear hey. Only drama is you need to be handy with a soldering iron... Quote
1.6hydro Posted March 29, 2009 Author Report Posted March 29, 2009 Ok lads i've pulled down my 7 rib block! The rods are the ones with the oil hole in the side and 18mm gudgeon pins. So are these the smaller ones??? And does this mean its the lighter crank as well?? It's great if they are! It has been built a few times this engine, it has 0.25 bearings in it, and oversize pistons, Just wanted to know if it is safe and or normal to rebuild it like this?? Everything is still in great shape as far as wear goes. But is it a good idea for smaller bottom end in seven rib block, The pistons also have the clips?? I have only run press pin! To my way of thinking it's a better option being lighter etc, but is it the right way??? Quote
1.6hydro Posted April 1, 2009 Author Report Posted April 1, 2009 Can someone please tell me where in Melbourne is the best to find "40 oversize pistons, 20mm pin, For a 4age!!! Is it simply just any ACL Stockist or is there a good cheap importer of toyota parts??? Also has anyone used NPR Pistons/Rings???? Quote
Trev Posted April 1, 2009 Report Posted April 1, 2009 (edited) Call ACL and tell them you want a set of pistons from an 89 onwards 4age but 40 tho oversize. Edited April 1, 2009 by Trev Quote
