ancullen Posted April 27, 2005 Report Posted April 27, 2005 As some of you may already know, my T50 has shat itself (partly through some maltreatment). Now I'm trying to decide what to do. My options are: 1. Get a kit to replace the synchros. 2. Get a replacement T50. 3. Get a W-series transmission. My Corolla is for race use only, and currently has a 4AGZE, the only mods being extractors and programmable ECU. However, I will want to up the power significantly in the future. So can anyone give me some idea of the max power/torque they have put through a T50 over a long period of time without having it self-destruct. Is it worth me going to the trouble of installing something like a W58 (Supra transmission), or should I stick to the T50? NOTE: When I get the money to power-up my motor, I'll be aiming for about 300hp. Quote
ancullen Posted April 27, 2005 Author Report Posted April 27, 2005 This will be used for lap-sprinting, not drifting (ugh, drifting). Of course, I'm notoriously vicious on gearboxes, so I think I'll look into the W5x option. Plus it'd be much cooler to have a Supra transmission listed in my mods. As to the diff, that'll be getting upgraded down the track anyway. Or whenever I break it as then it'll need replacing anyway :D Quote
ancullen Posted April 27, 2005 Author Report Posted April 27, 2005 Apology accepted. Checking out W5x stuff as we speak. Quote
NickAE86 Posted April 27, 2005 Report Posted April 27, 2005 speak to bill sherwood www.billzilla.org he brings in bellhousings from malaysia to suit the 4a/w* conversion. The quailty of the bellhousing is rather good. Depending on the conversion rate he can normally bring them over for around $350 he's got a thread on performance forums & toymods in regards to group buys (it's about 2-3 weeks old) I'm rather pleased with my setup :D Quote
ancullen Posted April 27, 2005 Author Report Posted April 27, 2005 Check out www.dellowauto.com.au. They have some stuff in their catalogue about using W50 steel case or W55/57/58/59 alloy case transmissions with 4AGE's. I've sent an email asking for more details & prices. I'll check out toymods for billzilla's post about the group buy. I checked his site out, but it hasn't been updated (as far as I can see) in ages. Quote
ancullen Posted April 27, 2005 Author Report Posted April 27, 2005 Thanks again. And my research wasn't very good. Just typed in 'T50 W58 bellhousing' on Google. Ah, I love Google. No more Yahoo for me! Quote
NickAE86 Posted April 27, 2005 Report Posted April 27, 2005 Toymods Link Performance Forums Link both posts are exactly the same...if you email him with an expression of interest he'll get back to you with a price and eta initally i was going to use a dellows housing but changed my mind after getting some feedback from people on toymods about the quality of the casings...from memory bill's bellhousing ended up being cheaper than dellows anyway there's also fellow here in Brisbane by the name of Anthony Kellam...he's sourced bellhousings in the past from a contact he has in Japan but I'm not sure of the cost...he can be located on toymods & twincam.org cheers Nick Quote
ancullen Posted April 27, 2005 Author Report Posted April 27, 2005 Mmm, tempting, but $390 is a bit much at the moment (I've still got to buy a gearbox as well, then fit it all). Especially when I can get a Sprinter T50 for $400, already up here (thanks DEEONE). Damn wedding & house to pay for. Quote
ancullen Posted April 27, 2005 Author Report Posted April 27, 2005 Note to anyone interested. Adelaide Jap Dismantlers (www.adelaidejap.com.au) have W58 transmissions for sale for $550 each. They also have 4AGE 20v quad throttles for $350, 1G-GZE SC14's for $350, and a filthy (yes, dirty) looking reclining race-style seat with an AE92 base for $295. No I don't work for them, just thought others might be interested. I know I'd love to buy the lot and stick them on Lola. Quote
NickAE86 Posted April 28, 2005 Report Posted April 28, 2005 (edited) W58 transmissions for sale for $550 each it'd want to be off a mkII for that price personally i think a earlier version w57 would be more than ample behind a 4agze. I'm usuing a w57 from a ra60 celica on my 4agte and havent broken it yet. It's a bit cheaper too coming in at $250 Haha I wonder if the contact in Japan is Anthony Pedwell i would've thought so myself but his name is rhett Edited April 28, 2005 by NickAE86 Quote

ancullen Posted April 28, 2005 Author Report Posted April 28, 2005 Thanks for the link. Unfortunately $2,000 for the TRD gearset is just a tad out of my range. Quote
