greenmac80 Posted March 8, 2009 Report Posted March 8, 2009 hey all. yesteray my engine fell over in my bay....... :locked:  wasn't secured real well and on one of my plastic covers a bolt hole lug has snapped off. these cover are pretty hard to find so i need to have this one fixed. there is plenty of meat in the plastic. so does anyone have a number for a place that'll do polywelding? or anyone have a welder and is good at it? cheers, Luc Quote
philbey Posted March 8, 2009 Report Posted March 8, 2009 what cover is it? Put a pic up, poly welders are typically polyethylene and I doubt there's many polyethylene covers on your engine. You'll need to work out what plastic it is first. Quote
greenmac80 Posted March 8, 2009 Author Report Posted March 8, 2009 ok here. its the very bottom timingbelt cover. Quote
Ksevn-T Posted March 8, 2009 Report Posted March 8, 2009 If only you were in melb. I have a mate thats good at plastic welding. I snapped my fan shroud clean in half and he welded and finished it perfectly! Ale Quote
greenmac80 Posted March 8, 2009 Author Report Posted March 8, 2009 well I'm'm gonna ring toyota on tuesday and see if i can get one new. if not then i'll probs send it to you maybe? Quote

greenmac80 Posted March 8, 2009 Author Report Posted March 8, 2009 ahk thats a good idea. mix that process with some hot glue? but no way would i find this at a wrecking yard! its from a 4age 20v. Quote
drc_ke20 Posted March 8, 2009 Report Posted March 8, 2009 I'm sure its the same as the 4age front timing cover so you can use any other,i will check mine in the morning and compare it with your one???i will let you know. Quote
philbey Posted March 8, 2009 Report Posted March 8, 2009 I don't like your chances man - I reckon that might be a Thermoset type of plastic (as opposed to a Thermoplastic), most engine parts usually are. Thermosets usually handle higher heat than Thermoplastic, and they generally just char/burn under heat. You won't be able to melt it, you're best bet would be gluing. Thermoplastics do melt though, you could try the soldering iron and you'll soon work out what you have. On the inside of the part should be a bunch of date-dials and an abbreviation like PE/PP/PUR or similar. Let me know what it is. Quote

greenmac80 Posted March 9, 2009 Author Report Posted March 9, 2009 ok it has TBC NO.2 then toyota part number. then it has P.PT Quote
LukeAE71 Posted March 10, 2009 Report Posted March 10, 2009 okit has TBC NO.2 then toyota part number. then it has P.PT If all else fails there was a 20 valve motor in the trading post in SA last week that required rebuild for $450. Rebuild was due to being smoky apparently. Purchase and sell off all the good bits and keep the plastic cover = win. The quad throttles alone would be worth $200. And the head would be good for someone for another $150 or so. The guy selling was a bit of an enchilada though but he might be getting desperate by now as it's been for sale for over a week. :D Quote
greenmac80 Posted March 11, 2009 Author Report Posted March 11, 2009 ahk well nah i don have those sorta funds. so yeah. i rang toyota and they are 86.70 but they need to order thru japan so shipping is about $40 and there will be a three month wait. not bad really for a brand new one. Quote

Have you thought about trying Castle Hill Toyota? They specialise in import parts and promise to have stuff in within 10 business days from Japan. I bought some things from them for my JZA80 and they were awesome to deal with. www.chtoyota.com or something similar just google it. Quote
greenmac80 Posted March 11, 2009 Author Report Posted March 11, 2009 hmmm well i rang christies beach toyota and they ckecked aus for any and said none. also current orders and nil. he reckons most likely japan wont have any either and they'll probably have to make it. Quote
